I just found this forum and I truly hope this helps me out. I am working until tuesday (through the entire weekend) and my 7/8 month old pup (he is a mix of a yorkie and chihuahua) is left inside my apartment unattended for most of the day 'cause I have to work. I leave him fresh food and fresh water, the problem is he has developed this scary habit of SOMEHOW removing DRY paint from the wall. I don't know if this is cause he feels alone but I am very worried and I am about to visit the vet, but haven't had the time until tuesday. I am pretty sure that when he rips out the pain off my walls, he is swallowing some.

I hope anybody has a good hint, 'cause I love my dog and want the best for him. Please anybody? Thank you. If you can send me your helpful info at [email protected]. Thanks.

I would inmagine if its the old type of paint that contained lead it would be harmfull, but dont think the new type poses any threat, I suppose it all depends on how much the dog is consuming. I would get the dog something to keep it occupied while you are out ie kong or a treat ball, or unless you are out for very long hours crate the pup for its own safety

create training might be a must in your case. I have to use it as well becuse Oscar "could" get in to some very dangerious equipment an hurt himself if I am not here to watch (lot of electrical cords in his reach) Definatly have the pain tested for lead, that could be a very serious problem that could effect your health as well as his (depending on circumstance) Also try the kong toys, Oscar really loves his. It can't keep him intrested long but it does work to stave off some bordem. You could also leave the TV on something like animal plannet or such. Dogs watch TV too.

What are kong toys? Sorry but I am new to dog raising. He seems perfectly fine, the paint has been on the wall since I moved in (back in august 06) Thank you guys for the help. I want to crate him but my partner doesn't think its nice of me. I might leave some music on for him and try to get him more toys. Any tips on how to get him to not be interested in the wall? Any sprays? My mother told me to put some vinegar on the wall, could that work? Thanks a million for your help.

that is a kong (I'm the one who e-mailed you about them) and you can fill it with yummy stuff while you are not home and it will keep him busy. Really crates are not cruel they are safer than letting your dog eat dangerous stuff, destroy your stuff and if he is not house broken it will help with that too. Lots of people here use them if I had a puppy I would too. As long as he is not in it for the entire day and he has something to do (the kong and other toys) while he is in there then they really end up enjoying it in there. Oh and about sprays, there are bitter apple sprays which work for some dogs, but not all. The only down side is that the spray does not last long and most people don't use them for long because they don't last. You can try it but crates are really best for when you can't be watching him.
