It's best to have styptic powder or quik stop handy if you are going to use a cutter on nails.

If you cut nails, you are going to hit the quick now and then, even if you are very experienced and very careful.

You need to restrict the dog's activity or the bleeding will take much longer to stop.

Flour packed onto the toe where it's bleeding and held for a few minutes with pressure should stop it.

The problem with quicked bleeds is that when the dog stands or moves, it puts a lot of pressure on the wound, and blows out any clotting so it keeps bleeding.

Do you have kwik stop? Or any styptic powder?

If not, then after it stops bleeding I reccomend you go to a pet store and buy some, if this ever happens again.

I didnt realize i cut it as short as i did. I hate cuttin the nails in the first place because i've been afraid I'd hurt him. He's running around and playing, it must not be hurting. Thanks.

My husband did that just two months ago. We even ended up at the vet and by the time we got there it had stopped bleeding. It can get scary, but it's usually nothing.
