I was out feeding Lucy when my sister called, she was in tears. My heart dropped, it was those "somethign bad has happened to one of the pets" tears. Sophie and Harry had ganged up on Buster and he was hurt pretty bad and mum wouildn't pick up her phone.Long story, but by the time I got home mum had taken him to the vet.

He was sedated when I got there, one ear is ripped terribly, he had puncture woulnds all over him, 2 legs are very sore. I walked in and his eyes still recognised me, and he still licked my hand.

This wasn't a fight, this was a gang up, buz had no defence. It took 5 minutes for my sister to seperate them once she found them, they were right down the back, Mac came and banged on the door till my sister came out.

Oh my gosh... that's horrible. =( I'm so sorry, I can't imagine how tough that is to see.

Get better soon, Buster. I'm glad it wasn't too serious.

I think this is the end for harry

I was patting Busters head when I went in, when I looked at my hand my fingers were covered in blood. I'm still scared for him, what if this happened when we wern't home? They wouldve killed him if Grace wern't there to stop them

Wow... seriously? I didn't realize he was so badly injured. Do you really think they would have killed him?

This must be heart-wrenching for you. =,( *hug*

We've been discusiing whta happened between us, the details were a bit here and there till we could sit down and discuss it.

Mac came to get my sister, they already had Buster on his back when she first saw them.
Thing is, they wouldn't stop, not with a sharp yell. Our yard is huge and my sister ran down to stop them, ran up to get a hose, down to hose them, up to drag Mac away so she didn't get attacked by Harry, back down with a rake. When I got home she was covered in mud.

I'm so glad someone was home, they run together all day everyday, if this had happened 2 hours earlier no one would be there, if my sister had come out to the horse, no-one would be there, that scares the hell out of me.

The vet called, he is okay, they have stitched up his ear (it was almost ripped off) and will re asess him in teh mornign then call us to come get him. He is getting all shaved as he has puncure wounds everywhere (poor boy, its the coldest time of year and he';s double coated) I only saw him once he was already on the table but apparently he has everything bitten from his face down to the insides of his back legs and a mark on his eye.

I've never seen anything like what happened to him, never imagined they could be so violent with each other. He has lived with Sophie every day since we got him.

We've been discussing it and we think this is Harry's last weekend. We will be consulting our regular vet, our behaviourst and doing a lot of serious thinking and rotating.

My poor little boy. I still don't know fully the extent of what happened to him. My sister called the vet to come pick him upo because she was the only one home. Poor little guy just sat downt he backyard and barked, my sister had to lead him to the car because he through on all the brakes when they tried to walk off with him, he's been so brave and so good.

i'm really sorry this happened. i'm even more sorry that your family still has not been separating these dogs when they cannot be immediately supervised. a huge part of avoiding stuff like this is shutting it down before it happens, when there's just posturing and hard looks. you cannot do that if you are not there and paying attention.

please please i BEG you do not leave these dogs alone together AT ALL.

Buster and Harry have never had issues before, Hary and Mac have and they are seperated when we arn't around. Buster and Harry have always got on really well, as have Buster and Sophie. For this to Happen to Buster of all of them is the msot shocking thing ever.

I"m off to bed. I feel exhausted, and sick and I have a terrible head ache, I just want him back. I've barly seen him all day.

The only "trigger" I can think off is that Sophie is on heat. And if it had ever been an issue they would have been seperated, but they've always taken no notice of each other and they've always run together when she was on heat without an issue. But just the fact that the motivation was there for them to do this for ANY reason is unthinkable.

The thing with Harry is that we can't rehome him, he is too attached to my mother, and beyond that.

He can't be trusted with strange dogs (or our own dogs apparently), he can't be trusted with strange adults outside the yard, and only trustworthy with one person inside the house, he hates kids, he has to be muzzled at the vets, he has severe HD and is only 2.
With all his problems with Mac he's never done damage, today he almost took off my dogs ear. I am not scared of death, and I wonder if it would be the kinder option for him. I love him soo soo much but keeping him could endanger a lot of lives.
Now he's shown that he has the potential to do a lot of damage, Buster does not hurt easily, he is very tough and can defend hismelf very well when it comes to other dogs. Which means they were really going all out.

Iwill have him back in the morning, then its time for a lot of tears and talking.

Oh, hon . . . that's an awful dilemma to be in :( (((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))) and share some with Buster when he's up to it.

Something to take into account. When there's a bitch in heat, ANYTHING can happen. Keep 'em separated and rotate and give yourselves time to observe and assess so that you can make a sound decision. Remember how bad it was between Zeus and Voodoo for awhile?

I just saw this thread. I'm so sorry you're going through this. If you remember, I went through the exact same situation. Zeus and Voodoo got into two severe fights. They were so bad that it made our home look like a scene from a horror movie---blood sprayed on the walls, puddles of blood on the floor, and both dogs red with the stuff. I had to make two emergency trips to the vet to get the dogs sedated and stitched. Both of them were badly torn up. They were afraid that Zeus might even lose one of his legs.

I had to keep the boys separated for more than six months. I was fortunate in that I was successful with my efforts of reintroducing them, and they're friends again. I think the problem was that Voodoo was going through a horrible teenage phase, and when it passed, so did the problems. But I will never trust them alone together again.

I'm going to be completely honest, and tell you what Dr2little (one incredible behaviorist) told me. From what I understand, my experience is rare. Most dogs who become aggressive to each other will fight again. But many people keep dogs that are aggressive to each other in the same home. You can crate and rotate them, or keep them in different areas in the house. We did it for six months, and managed to keep both our dogs happy. So it is certainly possible for everyone to live together happily. I know of several people on Chaz who have to keep their dogs permanently separated from each other, and have done so for years.

But if you don't feel up to handling the Harry's aggression issues, there is absolutely no shame in letting him go. Not everyone can handle managing aggressive dogs, and if your family can't, it's far safer for Harry, yourselves and the other dogs to choose another option.

Whatever you decide, I'm sure the Chazzers will support you. (((hugs)))

He's home now, not as bad as I thought he was going to be but his face is a mess and he looks like he's about 100 years old.

If this was the first time Harry had shown these sort of issues we wuld be seperating and supervising, but this just acks onto a very long list of issues he already has. If a person comes int he yard, or a kid opens the gate, or he gets out, or a dog comes into the yard, I'm scared what he woudl do.

I don't trust him anymore. We've given him a lot of chances but we don't want to wait till he hurts some kid or kills mac or soemthign like that.

(((((((((hugs)))))))) to you and baby buster... I feel for ya, I really do...
my thoughts are with you and your family. :)
I didn't remember that he had HD. Maybe he is in pain, that could be triggering the aggression?
I'm here if you need to chat - and either way, I support your decision.

Wow. That's an extremely tough situation to be in, and I cannot imagine the pain that you're going through right now.

Trust yourself to do what's right. Whether it's keeping him and living with it, or letting him go, you know we're all here for you. ((((HUGS))))

I've thought about his HD, but it doesn't all ad up as a trigger. Buster and him play really rough. LIke running full pelt out in the backyard till Buster tackles him type play and there has never been an issue. I've always been so surprised 2 blue boys could play so rough and never go too far.

He will also run fom the other side of the room to attack Mac when she is just walking past and he's never had a go at us no matter what he do.

I love him so much. Honestly, if it wern't for all his issues, I woudl have stolen him a long time ago.
But looking at Buster, I can see the damage. On the side SOphie was on there are oly a few marks, considering the damage I know she could very easily do, its very minor.
On the side Harry was on he has msot his ear stitched back up/on and bad punctures all over his face, shoudler, chest and back leg, all his heel area feels like it is full of fluid.

I'm still amazed at Mac, I appreciate her much mroe now. She actually had the thought process to think "I have to get help" and go and get my sister before goign back to defend. And I'm amazed at my sister, she got 2 dogs over half her weight off him, locked them all away sepratly, checked ont eh cat, caleld the vet and got him picked up before she coudl get in contact with anyone.
