I noticed a lot of you have great names for your pets and I was wondering if you guys can help me name my dog. I want to give it a 2 syllable name or something as short as possible. Since its a Japanese Akita I was thinking of giving it a noble Japanese name. I really liked the name "Hiro," and I was wondering if you knew any websites with Japanese names for my pup. Thanks!

Haha, I thought about naming him something like Joe (GI JOE), or Sam (Uncle Sam). I just think I'd rather name him with his heritage. I know I wouldn't want my name to be Jacques, because I'm not French :P. Devil Dog seems like a long name and DD doesn't sound too appealing. The link doesn't work, but I know them all :P. Leathernecks, Gyrenes, Bull Dogs, Devil Dogs, ect. hehe. Although it might not be a bad idea, hrm!

Link no longer works for me either.

Read Shogun by James Clavel, its a big book book but should give you alot of names.

It shouldnt be hard to find a Marine that served in Okinawa, they should be able to help you with names.

Thank you.

Well now!!! Hmmmmm!
How about these:

Name Meaning

Love the name 'Kazuo.' It's a good name for a dog to live up to as well, especially a dog like an Akita who can keep the peace merely by its presence.

'Jimmu' was the name of the first emperor of Japan, directly descended from the gods, and the source of the lineage of the emperor gods of Japan until Hirohito was forced to repudiate the claim as part of the surrender to the Allies.

Thank you everyone! I actually found the name "Kane" to be quite awesome and I think I'm considering naming him that!

I found out that Kane is actually a girls name!

I have been looking for 2 days now and I found the winning name! I am going to name my dog Kuma, which means Bear in Japanese. I think it will fit the Akita very well since they have bear faces. It just sounds perfect for it, tell me what you all think!

I have a male friend called Kane! Sshh, better not tell him he has a girls name!! :D
I like Kuma! :D
