My puppy Leo is 9 wks old. Before I brought him home, he was the second heaviest of his 4 siblings. They were feeding him puppy chow & Iams wet puppy food (yuck!) Anyway, I had done a lot of research and decided to feed him Canidae. I also recommended it to my friend who was getting Leo's brother Simon and another friend with 2 Goldens. Two of their dogs had never really been eaters, but with the Canidae they eat everything! NOT MY PUPPY. I have mixed it with wet food, water, microwaved it, you name it, nothing. He keeps sneaking the cat food, but is by no means getting enough to nourish a puppy (if cat food could even DO that). He likes his treats, but not really the hard ones. I bought some Yummie Chummies today (they are salmon & made here in Alaska) and he went crazy. Should I change his food? Is their a decent dog food made with fish? He seems to really love the cats wet food (all fish flavors). He needs his food. The vet just said stop feeding him treats and only feed him twice a day. I can't put food down and then take it up when I know he isn't eating. HELP! His brother now outweighs him by 2lbs!

Maybe any raw fish? Salmon maybe hallibut? Mix fish in with his kibble, just in an easy to clean area or outside?
Bluedawg would be getting fresh fish allready if I had done any this year, I might do some ice fishing this winter to get him some trout or pike. The parrents freezer might even empty itself of the hallibut. BD and the roomies dog love the Yummy Chummies, great treat.

Bad weather or not as long as I get my big raft back on the trailer Im good to go. Im hoping to get as much snow as we got for rain this year.
If you have chicken of beef broth try pouring that on his food, might even try a raw diet. Im trying to figure out a way to get BD on the raw without making a mess.

He is probably still very nervous. Do you mix the old food in with his new food? Try feeding him piece by piece because then he will think they are treats. My dog that I had was the same way when we first got her she wouldn't eat for almost a week, and then finally one day she just started eating. Now granted she was a full grown dog though, but he may be just trying to push you to see what he can and can't get away with. So stick to it and don't let him win. I wish you the best of luck in getting your puppy to eat the more nutrious food.
Have your tried canned sardines packed in water, or wild Alaskan Salmon packed in water? most dogs LOVE these two fish and they are very high in omega 3 fatty acids. I also found that some canned foods like California Natural, Solid Gold and Nature's Variety smell wonderful and look like meat...my dogs go crazy over these canned foods...the Canidae dog food is a wonderful product but it just doesnt smell as yummy or look as appealing. You might even want to try mainly all home prepared meals and canned foods with just a little kibble thrown in. 
I went to the store today and bought him some Eagle Pack Holistic kibble (it has fish in it) He wasn't impressed. I also bought a can of the wet Eagle Pack with Sardines & Salmon. He thought that was ok. I guess I will just have to give him the wet with a little kibble and increase the kibble amount slowly and see what that does. He is gaining weight (I weighed him last night) and he poo's a lot, so he must be eating something, but it is no where near the amount the bags say he should be eating.
I have thought about the "home cooked" kind of thing, but I just don't have time. I hardly cook for my family! (Everyone is too darn picky, I guess Leo fits right in! lol)

Honestly my dogs were picky at first too. They just had nothing else (well except treats), so they ate eventually. I hand fed them the first couple days to make sure they had enough things in their stomach, because they were just pouting the food bowl. After 3-4 days, they got too hungry and start eating.
My problem with adding stuff in the food to make them eat is that it just really delays the problem. They might eat, but when you stop, they won't eat again. I add yoghurt to their food once a day, but at the meal where I don't add any food, Boris just refuses to eat. I swear that I'm going to have to just feed him once a day, with yoghurt.

Many homemade feeders prepare the food once a week. You shred the vegetables, cook the meat, and then put it all in a big bowl in the fridge. Every day you measure out the feeding amount, add warm water and supplements, and feed
I will soon be feeding my dogs a raw diet, and since I really don't have the time to make it daily, I will be making it monthly - once a month we'll buy the ingredients, prepare everything, measure out the feeding amounts, put them in freezer bags, and then stick them in our big freezer we have in our basement. Every day I'll take out three meals and leave them out to thaw about an hour or two before I feed.

i don't have much more to add tot he suggestions that have already been given, only one piece of advice: don't try too many different things, or your dog will soon learn that if he refuses one thing, something better may come along.
also, don't expect him to eat more than his stomach can actually hold. if he is gaining weight properly, you are "in the green". when i got my current dog as a puppy, he was barely eating half the amount of food he was supposed to eat per day according to the recommendations on the bag, yet he gained weight normally and had energy to burn.

if you are concerned about things like salmonella - dogs have a much shorter digestive tract and much, much stronger stomach acid than humans, so they are well equipped to handle it. consider this, they evolved as scavengers, which means carrion (dead and decaying flesh) is naturally part of their diet.

Hi, It is possible that you dog have worms, but I think that when your dog don’t have something else, your dog have too much food.
It is therefore good to give your dog ones a week on the same day no food at all, only water. This is for all dogs that are grown up. You can ask this you Vet he will tell you the same.
