My beautiful Kiara has gone missing! She wasn't around all day yesterday and she hasn't been here this morning. I am so worried about her. I slept on the couch last night and jerked awake everytime I heard the flap on the cat door. My other cats came and went, but no Kiara. We will be putting up posters and looking for her today. I hope she is okay. She is always around and never goes far from home when she is out. I hope we find her. I will be devestaed if she is gone forever.

Our pretty Kiara, or Kee Kee as we affectionalty call her.

Please send good vibes that we find her and that she is okay :(

I do hope she comes home. This is one excellent argument against outdoor cats. Hopefully, she is ok. Sometimes, for some odd reason cats appear to take off for days and actually hang around the property or nearby, watching the commotion.

She insisted on being an indoor outdoor cat and wasn't happy until she was allowed to go out. But she has nevr gone far from home.

What bothers me most, is that the guy who owns the lot next door has it set up for camper hook ups. We usually get the custom cutters in there during wheat harvest and such and never had a problem. But there was some camper there for a couple of days. That camper left yesterday morning. I haevn't seen Kee Kee since yesterday morning. I know she is a sweet and beautiful cat, but it was quite obvious she had a home and is well cared for. I am worried that they may have taken her. Their plates said Iowa, so if they did, I will likely never see her again.

Oh boy. Well let's hope you are just worrying and thinking of scenarios. I don't imagine they would just pick up a cat. So you need to just relax a bit. The chances are just as good that she will be back as not. Ok?

Let us know when she returns.

Up until about 6 years ago, all the cats I had were indoor/outdoor, and some even outdoor only. They would occasionally be gone for a short while.

Even now, I have one indoor kitty that occasionally hides so well that I get a little worried when I can't find her. I know she would actually have to come downstairs, which she rarely does, and be disoriented when the door opens to actually get outside, but a couple of times I have wondered if somehow something spooked her, and she ran out.

She's just an excellent hider, and I think most cats are. Hopefully that's what yours is doing. She's just found the perfect spot where no one can interupt her thoughts.

Still no sign of her. She would have been in to eat by now. I put up signs, but nothing on that yet.I am going to get a hold of the guy who owns the lot next door and see if he has the contact info for the people who rented the camper spot. Its possible that if they had the door open, she might have gotten in there and fallen asleep in there and they may have driven away without realizing she was there. So I am going to see if I can contact them and find out if they may have had an accidental stow away.

Good thinking!

I still say she's nearby but there is a chance she was an accidental stowaway. I just think, given the way cats sleep with one eye open, if that had happened, they would have noticed rather quickly and turned around to bring her back.

I did have a cat (when I was a kid) who jumped in a car that was at a neighbor's house. The windows were down, and in he went. The neighbor's friend left. I was frantic because I saw him drive off with the cat. By the time I got my parents to understand what happened and try to follow the car, we couldn't find it. We drove around several blocks, and no cat or car.

Late that night the cat showed up. Our neighbor later told us that her friend had had a near heart attack when 'something' reached up from the back seat and touched him on the shoulder. The cat was scared, and he just opened the car door and let him out. He was just around the block from our house, and the cat came home.

A long story that has nothing to do with this but to say that they will climb into open windows, etc.

Did she have a collar and tags? If she's a stowaway, you might get a call.

Otherwise, they do wander off. My cats are indoors only, but the farm cats at my parent's place occasionally disappear, making Mom recruit Dad for a kitty hunt. They usually don't find them, and they usually do show up. I don't think one as ever actually disappeared for good.

One of my own cats, Firdaus, who is never, ever, ever allowed outside, did escape once. We started a frantic hunt (she's old, allergic to fleas, and presumably has no street sense) we found her under a bramble patch. After a couple hours of calling and getting ourselves cut up trying to get to her (she wasn't scared, she'd just move back and look at us) we were forced to give up. Almost immediately, she was at the door, mewing to be let in. I think she was having a great time driving us nuts . . . as soon as we weren't paying attention to her any more, she wanted back in the house. So . . . they do seem to enjoy the chaos they cause by vanishing.

I'd tell the guy next door that she's missing too . . . in case he gets a call.

Well, the guy won't give me the contact info of the people in the camper. He assures me he will call them himself. Sure he will. Most people in this town think that pets are just animals and that cats are a dime a dozen.

There is still no sign of her anywhere. We walked a four block radius, looking under hedges and asking if anyone has seen her. No one has.

She did have a collar with tags on it, but she kept losing them outside so we finally gave up trying to keep one on her.

I am checking with them. The nearest shelters are 30 miles away. I already checked the little icky city pound thing we have here. I also checked the burn pit where they throw dead animals. I will check the city pound again today and call the nearest shelters.
