I will be doing an in-home soon for a potential forever home for my precious Sonja. I feel really bitter-sweet about the whole thing, but I know it is in the best interest for Sonja. She is such a good dog and she deserves to have a permanent home and stabilty for the rest of her life.
All of the references checked out to be extremely good, even their vet (they had a Golden that passed away due to old age) gave them a really good reference. Another plus is that they don't live too far from me. Hopefully I could stay in contact because I truly do love Sonja very much.

Wish us luck.

I spoke to the lady that wants to adopt Sonja yesterday. She was so nice. It was a relief to hear someone excited about my Sonja. I will be meeting her at her home this Sunday and I will be bringing Sonja along so she can meet her potential new family.

I feel so happy but sad at the same time. Please keep Sonja in your thoughts for her new forever home (maybe)

Hello Everybody,

I went to meet Sonja's potential new family and they were a fantastic bunch. The children are very respectful and not over the top like many other kids their age. Sonja was completely comfortable in their home and with all the people.

The home is very nice and spacious. They are doing renovations, but there wasn't any hazards left out for Sonja to get into. They said she would have full run of the house all the time and would not be left outdoors at night. They do have a fenced in yard as well as a fenced in patio Sonja could be on in the warmer months.

I told them to think hard about adopting Sonja as she will cost a more than a typical dog (K/D food, blood work to check on her kidneys and such) and to get back to me at her convenience. She ended up calling me about 30 mins after I left saying that they ALL wanted to adopt Sonja!!! I wasn't even home yet. I could feel the excitement and love they had for her already and I truly like that.

They also had the grandparents come over because they wanted to meet Sonja too before they left on holidays!! Now that is a commited dog-loving family!!

I would definately like to see Sonja have her forever home with the two ladies and their beautiful family. I approve. I am going to miss Sonja painfully, but I know she will be happy with her new forever home.

So now all I have to do is wait for the family to get back to me this week to set up a date for me to drop her off. I know I will be crying buckets that day.:(

Bittersweet tears...I know you're over-the-top happy for Sonja but so, so sad for yourself. Hugs. Warm, encouraging vibrations for you.

It sounds like a really good home for her. I'm sure it will be hard--just remember the time you've had with her. You did a GREAT thing by taking her in until she found the right place.
