Just wanted to share my future plans with you guys... :)

So, i want to be an animal physical therapist...im going to open up my own place...its going to be just BEAUTIFUL...no cages for the dogs...but pens instead. and then of course, all the latest and greatest things required for animal PT...and its going to be FUN for them!!

but here is what else i was thinking would be really cool...but im just not sure how it would work...

I love kids too, and think it would be awesome to be able to do PT w/kids too (obviously im sure there are some health codes or crap like that i have to follow, lol) but how cool would it be if i could like, pair them up with an animal, and they can go through their therapy together!! Obviously some kids come in for just little things...but kids that just went through surgery, or need to have braces, things likle that...it will be so hard on them...and since animals are so therapeutic, they could be doing their own PT, while helping a dog who just had surgery as well!!

anyways!

what do you guys think :) ?

sounds like an awesome idea..i am trying to remember where i read ...oh i remember now it was in the latest issue of this animal paper that we get locally..i just tried to find it and it is around here somewhere so when i do (later today) i will come back and post. The article is about a vet that tried a holistic approach and was simply amazed at the difference..he described the waiting room and exam..the reaction of the dog ..just everything. It would be a great article for you to read...dang it where is it!

I think it sounds like an amazing idea . . . my only real question would be how to handle the liabilities . . .
w/the kids and animals working together you mean? if so, thats what i dont know either...

but the kids can come later if its possible...the animals are the first step!

smkie, id love to read that when you find it! The Animal PT i was talking to was also telling me about how amazed she is at the results...it was so good to hear that

Yeah, those are the liabilities I was thinking about. There are people out there (sadly) who look for someone to set up to sue

Don't let that stop you, but be sure you find a top notch contract attorney and have a very binding contract with your clientele when you do add the kids. Of course, one problem is that parents cannot sign away their children's rights (as in the right to sue or child support, for example) and a contract cannot be entered into with a minor . . . so it's a nice puzzle for a creative lawyer someday . . .

yeah, actually i was thinking about that as well.

I think a lot would have to do with how much i wanted to work with kids...because i would want to be the top doc :p

i guess it may also just end up being something where if kids or parents dont like the idea, they dont have to come to me...

its not that hard to find a PT...finding an animal pt is harder though

we shall see though!

I have TONS of time to think about it...i think getting through school is what i should be concentrating on right now, lol

ok i had a new thought on the whole thing dealing with the liabilities...

what if i teamed up with a real therapy doggy program...and on request, kids could go through their PT with actual therapy dogs.

I sincerely believe in the idea that having a dog companion, the kids (and im talking mainly about the ones who had some serious medical issues...not some kid who needs like 2 sessions of PT) will heal sooo much faster, and be soo much happier, so i really want to incorporate dogs with the kids...and whoever wants a companion!!

anyways, and then if any of the therapy dogs need PT, i do it for free or something, ya know? lol, dont know how well that would work...but its a thought!
