Hello, and welcome. I can't give you any advice on the signs, as my female is spayed, but I assume you need to know so that you can keep her away from the in-tact males in your neighborhood. :)

Most dogs have their first heat when they're 6-10 months old, and their second about 6-8 months after that. How old was she when she had her first heat?

I've seen first heats happen anywhere from about 6 months old to 26 months. Anything after 1 1/2 years old, I start getting a little worried, anything after 2 1/2 I'd either think there had been silent heats earlier and/or I'd be checking with a vet.

As for the OP, signs can include changes in behavior and eating, flagging (holding the tail/rear end higher), more frequent peeing, swelling of the vulva, bleeding. It varies somewhat from one dog to the next, but most will have swelling and bleeding. There can be silent heats where she is in heat and can get pregnant but has no visible signs.

signs of bitches coming into heat

Collies generally have their season anywhere from 6 months to a year. In my experience they are also pretty consistant. For example, if my bitch had her first season at 9 months, her second (and thereafter) season is usually 8-9 months. One of the first signs for me is how the males around her act. They will be very "interested" in her prior to her coming into season. After that their interest will dwindle somewhat until she is in standing heat (ready to breed). Some of the signs my bitches exhibit is more frequent urination or "marking" as well as trying to "mount" other dogs. They also may be more flirty with other dogs. Hope this helps :)
