(More) Ella's Lead Collar Help

I'd like to get the chihuahuas collared, but want some help and imput.

I definitely want the Small But Mighty collars...

I already know I want the exact version of the one on the left for Tucker... I LOVE it.

How is the metallic leather? Will it hold up to swimming and getting dirty?

I definitely want to go with metallic pink for Emma, but I'm not sure what spots and suede will look good with that. Same with the one for Rylie- I want the metallic green.

Also, Chloe is one of those dogs who has had an issue with keeping neck fur while wearing collars. Her previous collars have been 2 leather ones... without a lining. Do you think that the suede will irritate her neck fur? I'd love to get her a collar, but I don't want to lose the neck fur she's grown back!

No idea on the metallic, but the regular leathers look great and stand up to all sorts of swimming and rolling in dead things...

I'm going to have Rebecca put the cat safety release features on them... so I'll be less afraid of them getting stuck in their collars.

Instead of wearing out, it will develop a patina over time.

Patinas are films that develop on the surface of a metal, wood, or other substance over a period of time. In many instances, the development of a patina is considered desirable and may actually enhance the value of the item. Sometimes referred to as natural toning, a patina was once only achieved with the passing of time. Modern methods have made it possible to create a patina in a very short period of time.

Leather goods may also develop a pleasing patina over time. Leather jackets and belts will take on a darker brown patina as the material begins to age and become suppler to the touch. This is one reason that many people prefer the look of aged leather to the look of a new leather garment or accessory. The patina adds an air of being a comfortable and valued item, rather than something that just arrived from the store.

Becca and I had that convo when we were in Illinois. Smudge has multiple nice collars now. I was trying to think of something for Cider. We got to see multiple finished orders for customers, plus we played in Ella, Ophie and Luke's bins of collars - lots to see.

I liked the metallic blue that I don't think Becca had, and the purple she does. They've only carried the metallics for a few months, and her own furkids switch collars often enough many don't really get broken in well as they have so many (so jealous).

My guys itch and seem to hit their collars, I was horrified to let them swim in leather.. But I have been in their new toys and they look good. I am unsure the metallic will wear quite the same. We didn't think it would heal like leather does from scratches. We took home a scrap piece to play with and see how it will weather, but it's still a newer product so the verdict isn't in yet.

For now Kerri and I are sticking to bridle leathers as they happily wear well and heal in time from scratches and other marks.

Kerri prefers the bridle leather as she likes how it wears and it improves over time. Dekka's collar has been in bodies of natural water almost daily, some chlorine from pools and a trip to the ocean and it looks really good. The metallics won't be able to hold up quite the same in time at least to keep the finish.

I have some thinner latigos that might work better for your dogs' rough-and-tumble-fun-fun-play than the metallic.

It might not be the "fun" colors of the metallics, but if your dogs do lots of swimming and play outside a lot, these might hold up better.

How would pewter, kiwi green, watermelon pink, and deep plum purple hold up? Oh, and olive brown.

I try to take off the dogs collars before they go in water and roll in dirt, but they love rolling in wet grass and then rolling on dead snails Yuck.

I really, really *love* the pewter and kiwi green.

Well, I KNOW that the kiwi green holds up decently as a customer of mine has one and takes her dog swimming in it constantly.

I think if you want a leather that will patina or age really well, latigo or bridle is the way to go since it's the type of leather that allows them to patina over time.

Jess, I bought Teagan the Latigo blue leather with the pink sued linning and I LOVE it. Teagan swims in it and rolls in it ect ect and its still holding up wonderfully. She had the collar "small, but mighty collar the one with the pink rhinestones.

I'm *so* excited about the safety features for the chihuahua collars. It's the only reason why they are getting collars... like I said, I have a major fear of them getting stuck in their collars!
