Another update:

Here's a tentative schedule.

SATURDAY
12 noon - off-leash meetup at the semiprivate dog park in Ames. This will give everyone time to get to town and get checked in to hotels. The dogs can have a nice romp for awhile.

Next item on the agenda will happen sometime after the dog park. Lunchtime at Hickory Park! We'll give everyone time to get dogs back to the hotel, etc.

Sometime after lunch, we'll head out to either McCarthy Park or the Peterson Pits - there are very nice prairelands, with creek access so we can have a nice ON-leash dog walk. This will be a LONG outing, so the dogs that have been cooped up all day can get some exercise.

Dinner - not sure what we should do for this one. We can either go cheap and get Flying Burritos or sub sandwiches and Coldstone Creamery ice cream (I KNOW Jennifer would be game for that!).... or we can have another big meal at Dublin Bay or La Fuente (or somewhere else that's more "sit-down"... Ames people help me out here!)

SUNDAY

We can either have a nice morning walk at one of the prairieland trails, or we can go down to Ankeny (20 minutes south) and/or Des Moines (about 40 mintesw south) for some shopping.

If we end up going down to Des Moines, there is a very nice dog park that does require permits, but I believe they only require shot records... I'll check into that.

.
.
.
.
So it's obvious we have some planning to do - what I need from you guys is comments and suggestions on what YOU want to do - do we want to be hoofing it around all the time, or do we want to have a more relaxing, less active time... or a little of both? We could have a picnic in Brookside Park, do some shopping.... speak up and share your ideas!

Next week I'm going to call hotels in town, see what the pet policies and costs are.

Yeah, little of both. I think a couple drinks would go well towards smoothing any awkwardness...LOL!

That's the other option Zoom... the Peterson Pits have the most safe water, and dogs are allowed off-leash. It's not fenced, but it's in the middle of nowhere (save for a few horse paddocks on the east side)

Sooo... we could always schedule an offleash romp at Peterson Pits... but people would have to understand that it's not fenced, dogs are offleash at their own risk!

I'm ok with that! Don't know about others, but mine are used to off-leash hikes through unfenced areas.

Good deal - so is Ilsa, though I keep an e-collar on her as she likes to chase the horses... not a wise thing for her to do!

ARRRGH well I've been trying to post pics of Peterson Pits and Mccarthy Park, but Photobucket is choosing to be ridiculously slow... seems to be a growing trend with that darn site. Grrrr maybe tomorrow.

Grammy, we'd love to have you here, but only if it wont put a financial strain on you. If money is an issue, we'd rather you be able to take care of what you need financially rather than come to the meet-up.
Completely understood. ((hugs))

SIzzledog. You just mentioned the 2 worst words (OK maybe just one) when concerning food. (La Fuente) You know my vote is for there. I LOVE it.

Also, what are the nesting dates out at Peterson? I think they are close to the time we are planing our meet up. Hopefully it will be over by then.

And, do you have the prerequisite deburring equipment for a setter for the Nature walks? If not let me know so I can bring some with me.

Sada you may want to bring deburrign stuff down - I don't know if my stuff would work!

I understand everyone has expenses, and those expenses are a lot more for out-of-towners... which is why there's no pressure to attend, and we're going to arrange things cheaply. Probably have dinner at the Flying Burrito - lots of food (and vegetarian friendly!) for very cheap! And rice krispies treats the size of your HEAD! I'm not joking.... mahahahaaa!

So I have bad news, I can only get the Sunday of the meet off of work. We have a madatory day that Saturday. Though since we are rebidding on hours at work, who knows what my schedule will be like. There is the possiblity, if I end up on overnights, that I could still do it.
