This question is for any women here who have full time jobs... or men for that matter, if you happen to know what your employer's policy is on it. For that matter, men.. do you get paid paternity leave??

Does your work offer you paid maternity leave? If so, how long? Is it a percentage of what you normally make? If you do get paid maternity leave, what kind of job do you have and is your company hiring?

BTW I am not pregnant, just planning ahead ;) My employer will not give me any amount of paid maternity leave, but of course I get as much unpaid as I could ever want  Considering my husband makes a third of what I do, this is going to require some serious planning ahead and saving for prolly a few years. We didn't really wanna have kids for a few years anyway. Talking to other people in my field, not very many get paid maternity leave. But then my friend who worked full time at Blockbuster when she had her kid got 8 weeks paid maternity leave. Go freaking figure. Oh and, my husband gets paid paternity leave with his job. I guess I could just let him stay home with the kid while I go off to work.

My husband did not get paternity leave. He just had to take a couple of vacation days while I was in the hospital, or unpaid leave. He was with me in the hospital. Sun night - Wed morning. He went back to work Thurs. Took off Friday (just because he wanted to get some stuff done while my mom was still here to help me) and then was back full time the next week.

I didn't have maternity leave, because I don't have a real job. I just babysit my nephew and my sis was out for the summer.

But my sister teaches at a community college and she got 6 weeks maternity leave when my nephew was born.

I wasn't working. When my sister had her son she worked in a call center and they let her use her short term disability to cover her maternity leave or something

I might not be a fan of Canada's health system, but I sure do like the maternity leave all Canadians are entitled to as long as you have worked the past year before claiming mat leave. In Canada a couple is entitled to one full year split however. Usually the mother takes all 12 months, but a father can take 6 months and the mother can take 6 or any break down of the time. The govermnent compensates 55% of your salary, and rarely some companies will additionally cover some of the remaining 45%. I can't imagine only having 6 weeks maternity leave, that seems so short.

My company offers 12 weeks of paid maternity leave. I also have the option to work from home so honestly I can be off as long as I want/need.

My husband gets 2 weeks of paid paternity leave and can take additional time (up to 2 more weeks) if wanted but it has to be unpaid or come out of his PTO.

From what I recall from my coworker's pregnancy, we get 8 weeks of maternity leave. Two weeks come out of vacation time and the remainder is paid by the company. She had additional complications so she used short-term disability until she could come back.

My last job gave 4 weeks of fully paid maternity leave. Meaning I got paid exactly the same as if I worked a 40 hour week, and plus all benefits. Anything after that 4 weeks had to come out of vacation/sick time.

As much as I want. ;)

I have no idea. I've talked to women who get none, husbands who get tons and vice versa.

I don't work full time, but I got 6 weeks off. I worked up until Mason was born, and then took that full time off. They called me near the end of the 5th week and asked if I could come back. I have a wonderful boss and coworkers that didn't fret over time I took off after having him. A coworker just gave birth to her baby 6 weeks early (water broke while at work). I'm not sure yet how much time she's allowed. Ill have to ask another coworker this weekend, as I am curious too, especially since she has a preemie!

I get none. My husband doesn't get paternity leave, but his has a ridiculous amount of sick days to use.

My company gives 6 weeks paid maternity leave, and up to 6 months unpaid (which is awesome, really, because it guarantees you have a job to come back to). Full salary, full benefits, etc. They offer the same benefits as paternity leave if you are the primary caretaker of the child. (If the mom is not primary caretaker, she gets a couple weeks as medical leave, but not the extended time)

I could took as much time as I needed really but it was unpaid. I could use vacation time and I ended up working part time from home to make up some of the hours and because they needed my help. I work for a small company though so there are no benefits but it is also very flexible. My husband could take whatever time he wanted off as well under FMLA but he didn't get paid unless he used vacation days.

I would suggest looking into a short term disability policy. I am thinking of looking into this as well. I believe they are expensive but I suspect that if used for a specific purpose like this, it will in the end pay for itself.

I believe in the US an employer must allow 12 weeks of unpaid maternity leave. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that was a federal issue)

At the clinic where I worked, I got 8 weeks of paid leave and could take the remaining 4 unpaid.

My husband actually gets one week of unpaid leave, but still....it doesn't hurt him or count against sick days or vacation days. So although he's swapping some shifts to have time off, it's nice to know that in the even of an emergency, he can take the time off without penalty.

Will they let you use some vacation time? That might help. The standard in retail around here is if you have been there under a year you get nothing. No paid leave and no guarantee you still have a job when you come back (now thats just company policy. Most of the time if you are a good employee your boss will save your job. But there is no policy to guarantee it) If you have been there over a year (at the time of the delivery) you get 6 weeks paid leave and a guaranteed job when you return.

Today was my last day at work before taking off for maternity leave. I'll be taken 3 weeks of paid short-term disability before delivery and 6 - 8 weeks after (depend on whether or not it's a normal or C-section delivery), 6 weeks of paid family leave, and then 5 weeks vacation days - for the total of about 5 months.

Here, every mother to be is entitled to 100% payed maternity leave for 14 weeks. 6 weeks before the child is born and 8 weeks after. If you nave twin or an early born child you get 12 weeks after birth. After that you are still entitled to get 60% of you loan up to 1 year, depeneding on income. If the father takes time off to care for the child, you get an extra 2 months and you get more child money. (here every child that is under 18, or still in school/college, recieves, well their parents recieve ^^, 159€ a month.)

I'm looking into short term disability, thanks boney.

I get all the unpaid leave I want. That doesn't really help me though.

I can use vacation time. I get 80 hours of vacation time every year. It used to expire if I didn't use it in the year, but I did get them to allow me to save it up..

I am so freaking fed up with my job right now anyway.
