Is there any association or club that lets nonhounds compete for titles, not just "fun runs"? Been talking to a Greyhound friend and shes got me really interested in doing coursing with Tori, but to her knowledge there are none that offer a title or actual competition for non-hounds. Any ideas?

And if so, how does one get started?

AKC offers titles for non-sight hounds. Check out their page on the Coursing Ability Test. Both of my dogs have one leg towards their CA, the first title awarded for non-sight hounds that do a CAT.

This! I think that the UKC does stuff for non-hounds as well because I have a friend whose talked about it... but I've never participated myself so I don't really know. The CAT events are usually at the end of the trials, after all the hound stuff is done. My dobe absolutely loves it and my Icie is starting to love it as well.

for the AKC and UKC events, does the dog need to have an ILP/PAL / full registration? its not possible for my dog to have either, and Id rather not wait til shes retired and spayed and 7 before doing coursing :/

I don't know about UKC but this is what AKC says.

AKC said:
Section 3. Eligibility to Enter. Coursing Ability Tests are open to all dogs at least 12 months of age that
are individually registered with the AKC, recorded in the Foundation Stock Service (FSS) program,
individually registered with a foreign or domestic registry organization whose pedigrees are acceptable for
AKC registration, dogs granted a Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL) number, dogs with AKC Limited or
Conditional Registration, or dogs enrolled in the AKC Canine Partners program. Dogs with breed
disqualifications and monorchid/cryptorchid dogs are eligible to participate. Females in season may not
enter. A dog may enter only once per event. (An event is defined by an event number.)

The dog does need an AKC number to participate. Without it, you can only do fun runs sponsored by local clubs, etc. Some places are starting to offer lure coursing more regularly for any and all dogs, however, there are no titles involved.

For what it's worth, I didn't start coursing with my older dog until he was 7 and he has better times than my youngest dog. So it's still totally do-able for the older crowd :)

Yeah, Im sure barring accidents, she would be able to do it at 7, but shes 9 months old, and I want to do something neat with her NOW XD weight pull doesnt interest me, neither does agility, rally, or obedience. tracking and lure coursing look fun, but when shes a mutt/"breed" it limits what we can do and where we can do it *sigh*

Disc dog!! No really, it's fun, any dog can do it (any breed.. any age.. spayed/intact/etc) and it's engaging. Builds a great working relationship, keeps your dog in shape and I think it also keeps the handler mentally sharp. Also, it lets you express your creative side!

Skyhoundz, one of the bigger disc organizations, does offer titles at qualifying events. SaraB and I went to one of them last fall and earned a few titles each.

However, compared to some other sports there isn't as much of a want for titles in disc. Instead, I think people tend to use qualifying for different national/world championships as a way of showing what they have accomplished. For example.. "this is Grady, two time AWI World Qualifier". Each organization has a different method to qualify, so each comes with their own unique set of goals to work towards. For AWI, you need to be a top five placing team in the top division, versus UFO you need to accumulate a certain number of points at Major and Local events, for Skyzhounds Discdogathon, you need to take first place in one of the games.

You can register mixed breeds with AKC's Canine Partners for the CAT titles. Or, find and join a local Mixed Breed club and see if there's a lure coursing club that will let you run dogs for a Mixed Breed Junior Coursing title. That's what I did with Riley - our local Mixed Breed chapter worked with the local Coursing club and set up test dates, open to anyone who wanted to participate.

I think AKC is also going to open up their tracking tests to mixed breeds registered in Canine Partners, possibly this fall. (At least that's what I read in the National Mixed Breed newsletter, although they said the details aren't finalized.)

The dog is a Fad "breed" looks like what most people are used to calling Pit Bulls, she is an American Bully. Frost wants to breed her so she can't spay her to compete in things.
