I have a friend that is desperately looking for a lab to adopt. She's trying petfinder, adopt-a-pet, local shelters..but there well, seems to be a shortage of labs to adopt..and she doesn't want to buy from a breeder (thank God)..

Does anyone have any recommendations?
We live in Ontario (Toronto, to be more specific)...

We already tried to contact the Ontario Lab Rescue, but no response..just a voicebox and nobody ever answers or calls back :p ugh!

So if anyone can help out, I would appreciate any info I can pass onto her...

A shortage of labs? That is hard to beleive, but very encouraging!:D
Sorry, no offense meant.... but usually half the dogs being put down are lab or lab mix. :(

Does it HAVE to be a purebred lab? Or can it be *mostly* lab? And how far is she willing to travel?

These two are in Newmarket:

Brampton:

http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=7971074 (a puppy!)

Mississauga:

Peterborough: (a bit more of a hike, but you could pay me a visit! lol)

Etobicoke:

And for labs in Toronto directly:

I have to head out now, but this didn't take too much searching, and I browse Humane Society websites in Ontario practically as a hobby (it's sad). So I'll pm you if I find more

vanilla...I found all the ones you posted except the Peterborough ones..I sent them the pages a few hours ago..but I will add these ones as well..Thank you.

They are bit picky..but rightfully so..they aren't looking for an older dog...they want something younger, but not a puppy...not looking for a specific sex or color or anything..they want a dog that is friendly with other dogs and children...they don't have children, but they do visit..and they want dog friendly because well, they visit Messina often and would like their dog to get along with her and some of the other dog's their friends have...

They are very nice people...with very warm hearts..they've owned dogs before that died of old age...any dog would be very happy to live in their home...:) I hope they find one soon

I found a few here....

http://www.guelph-humane.on.ca/Adoptions.htm#

Just go to the adoption gallery. Guelph always seems to have young dogs there.

and here

http://spca.cambridgeweb.net/adoption_dogs.html

Cambridge right now has tons of lab cross. They always have young dogs and the dogs go fast they have been bringing dogs from Louisiana since the disater over a year ago. It never hurts to look at the mix labs as well thats why I added them. Good luck to your friends with there search :)

Here is a list of SPCA branch's and affiliates

http://ontariospca.ca/8-branch.shtml

All websites and phone numbers are included. I'm sure if you found an acceptable animal at any of their branch's they would help you get it transported to a shelter closer to you. When I worked for them they would move animals from shelter to shelter trying to get them adopted. It's usually fairly easy to find larger dogs as most of the smaller ones get adopted pretty quickly.

Good luck on your quest!

I've got a female black Lab looking for a home. :) She's not so hot on female dogs that she can't boss around though, so her and Messina would need a LOT of supervision for the first handful of times they got together.
