Last night my neighbor knocks on the door asking me if I knew anyone that would pick up a baby raccoon that they found. I went outside and seen it laying on the sidewalk and told her I did not know of anyone but that animal control should be called and they would probably know what to do.
Animal control comes and takes the baby raccoon away which was alive but before they came we looked to see if their was some kind of nest around and did not see any evidence of one or where the baby raccoon came from. About 15 minutes later I am talking to the neighbor and Lola is going nuts near her garden all excited and happy. I pull her back and see another baby raccoon. Like the last one that was just found this one was also put in a shoe box on a bed of kleenex. Animal control was called again and in the meantime as we were waiting for them Lola was getting all excited and happy wanting to see the raccoon.
At this time the shoe box with the baby raccoon was sitting on the trunk of the neighbors car so I picked Lola up so she could see it and held her while she did. After a minute I put her down and then she goes to the back of the car and in one leap jumps up on the trunk of the car to get a better look. The car trunk is at least 3 feet up from the ground and at this point I have had enough of Lola being excited and happy so I take her back inside. After a while we go back out again and Lola goes over to the same spot where she found the baby raccoon and starts sniffing around. She then goes to the back of the car and again in one single leap jumps up on the car again looking for the raccoon which was picked up by animal control when they returned before we went back out.
Earlier tonight while I had her out talking to the neighbors who like to sit outside in the evening, Lola usually sits on their lap as they call her up on it. Tonight she did not even go near the neighbors but instead is just sitting in front of the apartment building staring intently at it and every once in a while staring at another part of it towards the roof line.
In no way was the raccoon in any danger from her as when we are outside she is on a 20 foot training leash. When she was getting excited about the baby raccoon it was a high pitched excitement bark and not her usual bark. She also uses the same excited happy bark if I am out for a few hours when I get home. I think she just wanted to play with the baby raccoon as she did when I brought home Harley as a kitten but I did not let her play with the baby raccoon.
