Little Question

I am going to argue on one point of this whole thread... Precious and Spud are outside all day, with us going out at different times watering, feeding them and playing for a few minutes. Then, at night, we put the cats up and let them come in and have run of the house. Then, they are tucked away in their kennel for nite nite. They are perfectly happy well adjusted animals. I have just as good a bond with them as I do with Roxy who is strictly inside. Except for her bathroom breaks.

In a purely scientific sense, dogs could easily be considered parasites, what with the way they "work" us to survive. To think "We domesticated the wolf, we became the leader and the alpha and whatnot" it a little naive. Dogs benefit incredibly from the their relationships with us, and have developed a repotoire of behaviours specifically designed to "be cute and nice" to the humans. So, whilst you are thinking "oooh our species are so special domesticating those wolves!" the dogs are thinking "watch me make this stupid human use the can opener!"

A very good and scientifically based post!

It seems dogs and humans have in a way "evolved" in their relationship with each other over the years, to have a more "symbiotic" relationship which benefits both species. Man would not have kept dogs around for this long, if there was nothing in it for us!

I just had conversation with someone about the fact that our dogs use "cuteness" to get us to perform certain behaviors for them, to get what they want, too!

Your bunch is much nicer than mine, Pro If one of mine was inside all the time and the others were outside the majority of the time, I can only imagine how they'd take it out on the insider . . . I can just hear them now, names like "house mouse," "peoples' pet," "window wuss" . . . The two grrrrls are acutely aware of who gets what and when and how much attention each gets
