Lightning Pictures

I went out and took some pictures of our lightning show tonight. I am mad though cuz the best one I got shows the drops of water on my lens.

These are with no editing, only a rotation to try to straighten the horizon and crop.

did you see that guy on the news who took a bolt to the HEAD? Cray-zay! He was okay but another man died during the same storm on the same lake...scary stuff. Great pics!

OK....WOW!

What were your settings? Lightning is something I've tried to get for years without much success.

I had it set at f/11 and I think I had it open for about 5-8 seconds at a time. Holding the tripod down tightly cuz the wind was blowing like crazy. Then I just push the button over and over. I took about 100 pictures, these 4 were the best. I got about 25 shots that actually had lightning in them.

It is hard though cuz you have to zoom in a bit usually to try to actually get in to take up the sky instead of to be a tiny streak in your big picture. So it's often disappointing cuz a great one will happen just outside your frame. I need at least another camera and some remotes so I can at least get 2 views.

Those are amazing. A little photoshop work can correct some of the water spots pretty easily. I'm amazed... I haven't had a chance to try any lightning pics yet...
