Plus we get fined a LOT for having an unlicensed dog and AC officers do check once in a while. Sometimes they'll just go to areas where dogs get walked a lot and ask everyone to provide their dog licenses.
Wow have you seen this in Richmond and if so where? I've only dealt with the bylaw officer for my area and he is super chill lol.

We've had unlicensed dogs, they just send letters with threats of fines, but we've never been fined (we pushed it a bit but they're licensed now so I don't know the breaking point). And it took them a loonng time to realize it. Which is funny because their records would've shown the licenses had been expired for years.

Also, re:Langley... I dunno, I would hate to give you bad advice but I REALLY don't see them enforcing that law much. If I were you I wouldn't worry with 3 well cared for dogs. It seems silly to even have a law like that in Langley. Maybe it doesn't apply to ALR zoned properties?

The limit here used to be 1 without special permit, a couple of years ago they changed it to 2 but we've applied and are now licensed for 4.

I actually just called the borough dept of ordinances & public health and they told me there is no borough limit until you need a kennel license... which is like 25 dogs or something. lol

I just googled this because I wasn't sure - I'd heard numerous things. We're allowed 3 dogs, 4 cats.

No limit in NYC.

We do need to license them, though, and I think by law they're supposed to have their license tag attached to the collar when in public.

Fortunately I'm in the county and can have up to 9. In the city, it's 4. I do know of some other cities/counties in this state where you can only have 2 PETS ... insane!!!!

Yes I've seen this happen twice just outside of my house. There's a tennis court and beside there, there's a small area of grass where people sometimes play with their dogs and let them play fetch off leash. One of my neighbors that I know really well almost got fined because he didn't keep his license tag on his dog but he had it. He had to convince the officer he had it and asked the officer if he wanted to go to their house (literally 1 min away) and show the officer...

Also another friend of mine living just 3 or 4 min away has a dog that she keeps renewing the license to for 3 years. One year she couldn't find the licensing tag so she ended up getting him a new license. She just filled out paperwork as if he was a new dog and didn't renew the old one since she lost it. Then the AC officers came to her door and asked her if her dog still lives here...then she had to explain the entire story to him because he wanted to fine her for not renewing the tag.

As for Langley I know even if you had 20 acres of farmland you still are allowed only 2 dogs. The exception is closer to the border there's an area where you're allowed 3 but I'm not going to live that far down I don't think. I'll have to get around it somehow because I don't want to disobey the law and risk whatever they're going to do like make you get rid of a dog or something. I just can't have that!

This is within the city limits of the city I live in. There are some interesting variables:

_______ residents may keep up to a combination of 4 dogs and cats if living on property of less than 1 acre, 5 on a lot that is between 1 and 5 acres, and up to 25 on a lot that is more than 25 acres (MMC 10.04.470).
If you plan to keep more than 4 dogs and cats in your home, you may be eligible for a Special Hobby Kennel License. Special requirements may apply to kennels and cateries, with a license issued only after the Community Service Officer is satisfied that the requirements in the applicable sections of ____ Chapter 10.04 have been met.

My county restricts dog ownership per household to four dogs, and you can apply for a kennel license to keep more. There is a gated community near me that restricts pets (cats and dogs combined) to two.

So I lied, they changed it on me :p You are allowed to have no more than 3 dogs over 20 weeks of age, and no more than 5 cats over 20 weeks of age.
