I guess you learn something new everyday.... and I have pictures.

During my bird watching, I was shocked to see the way baby birds have a poo poo. I was not shocked to see mother and father bird eat it... but I was shocked that it does not look like "bird poop"...... it looks like a marshmallow! It must have some sort of membrane around it to hold it together. I hope you can see what I mean by these pictures as they are not that great.


This is daddy bird (I think) directly taking the "waste" from baby birds butt!



This is him holding it just before taking off with it. But I have seen them eat this more often than flying away with it.

Great shots !!! I've never seen an empty nest coated with droppings .... Mother Nature knows best !!! Please get pictures as this babies mature !!!

Well from what I understand it doesn't take long for them to leave the nest. They are already flapping there wings like crazy. I posted some more pics of them today in the fire hydrant, something like.. "Please help which picture do you like the best?"

I'm guessing within a few days they will leave the nest. :)

White chocolate? lol I think it's bluebirds that get sack-like poop so the mom can pick it up and take it out of the nest. At least, that's what I remember from one of the nature tours I took as a kid. Hm. Might have to double check that 'fact' :p
