Now that I know my mom won't be bending and letting him stay, and also now that I know much more about him, I thought I'd post a thread for him in hopes of getting the word out. :)

Kiba (formally Attila) is a two year old male Pit Bull. He's up to date on his vaccines through July and has not been neutered. He's VERY sweet, VERY friendly, and VERY happy! I haven't seen anything that phases him yet (besides a scary bag of fertilizer in at TSC :rofl1:). He doesn't have any food aggression issues at all and you can take bones/toys away from him without any problems.

He gets along extremely well with other dogs. Not only does he tolerate my bully of a bitch with aplomb, he doesn't push Rose's buttons either and gives her the space she requests without any incident at all. All of the dogs he has come in to contact with (barking neighbor dogs charging at us on walks, friendly, vocal neighbor dog in our yard) he either ignores or wants to play with. I don't know how he would be with small dogs. He has a huge prey drive, so it could go either way. I should also note the three dogs he has played with at our house have all been female (but I don't think he'd mind neutered males, either - intact, domineering male dogs are another question).

On the note of prey drive, he doesn't like cats that run. When they're just laying there he's fine and just sniffs them curiously, but if they run he will chase them. He also likes to chase squirrels and rabbits (and anything else little that moves). Livestock are very questionable. He doesn't bark at them, but I wouldn't trust him around them at all. (Which poses a problem for us, because we are surrounded by various forms of livestock, and he if were to get loose and run them it would be very, very bad.) He treats the cows, goats, and donkey's like cats...he's curious about them when they hold still, but if they move he tries to chase them.

He loves all people, but would be a bit too rambunctious for young children. When you run he likes to chase you and jump up and grab your shoulder (in play) and when he's excited he'll bound straight up in the air and use your chest as a spring board while kissing you. That wouldn't mix well with toddlers. When we're out in the yard he sticks close by and doesn't wander off. I'm pretty sure he could jump a four foot fence if he had the motivation too, so if you plan on leaving him out in the yard unsupervised he'd need a six foot fence (or other method of containment).

He knows "sit", is very food motivated, is crate/kennel trained, and seems like he is housebroken. He spends most of his time outside here so I can't say for sure, but he keeps his kennel clean and doesn't mark when he's inside. He's not destructive, but he does like to kill plush toys.

I'm located 45 minutes north-west of Indianapolis, halfway between Lebanon and Lafayette. His adoption fee will be to cover his neuter (if it needs to be done), which would be about $80-$120, depending on the discount I get at work.

If anyone is interested in him or knows of anyone that is interested, let me know! :) Feel free to pass this along to whoever, and I can answer any questions that may pop up. He's just such a good dog, and he deserves an amazing home.

I think I may have found someone to adopt him. :) Fingers crossed! I'll be sad to see him go, though.

So far it looks promising. :) The application he returned to me looks good. I'm going to contact his references tomorrow and then work out a meet and greet. I really hope it will work out - Kiba deserves the best!

Well, the home fell through, at least for now. The guy contacted me today and said he had to take his wife to the hospital (pregnancy related) so he couldn't come out for the meet and greet today. I don't know if that line is a load of bull or if it is really true, but I'm honestly not expecting to hear back from him, which is a shame because I think it would have worked out. *sigh* Oh, well. The search still continues!

Blackrose, Kiba is truely adorable, such a funny cheerful face! I was attempting to rehome some of mine what kind of questions should I be asking? Seems--I need to know more about rehoming.....

What I have done with all of the animals I've adopted out (he's my first dog, but I've had some foster kitties and rodents, too) is have the interested party fill out an application. That alone helps weed out a bunch of people. The fact that they take the time to answer your questions is always a plus. I just took a generic shelter application and edited it, but you basically want to figure out how the animal will be cared for. Exercise plan, fenced yard, where the dog will sleep, experience with training, why they want a dog, other animals in the home (and health statues), have they other surrendered a dog to a shelter, what happened to their past pets, are their any kids in the home (what ages), do they rent or own, etc., etc. I ask for a vet reference so if they have other animals I can make sure what they told me about them is true. And if they don't have other animals, it is nice to know what vet they will be using. You can also ask for personal references too.
If the application looks good, then meet and greet/home visit is next. If everything is still good, then the animal is rehomed on contract. :)

Kiba now has a petfinder profile!

Petfinder Adoptable Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Lafayette, IN | Kiba-Courtesy

And I did find out two days ago that he probably can learn to get along with an assertive cat. He went up to Apollo yesterday to sniff him and Apollo was having none of it. Poof'd up into a ball, stood his ground, and swatted Kiba on the nose. Poor Kiba fell over backwards trying to get away from him and he's avoided him since then.

I wouldn't trust him around pocket pets (he tried to eat Joey) or skittish cats, but an assertive cat that will put him in line seems like it would work out just fine.
