As I said, Just look at this smile...
It makes all the work and effort of being a parent and being involved in your childs life a real reward! It is also comforting to know, that you are teaching them a way of life that is sustaining and not relying on the grocery stores. :D

And you're getting the opportunity to teach them respect for the other beings that share the world with us - and sustain us :)
Hubby fixed the kids smoked, bacon wrapped (with a special sauce) deer tenderloin. They both said it was the BEST meat they have ever had. Of course my elder son made sure the younger knew that he wouldn't be eating if it weren't for his great marksmanship... Lol

OMG, is that deer dead? It must be. It wouldn't sit still like that if it weren't...Don't get me wrong, maybe I'm mistaken..but do you encourage hunting??? Don't know what to say...really:confused:

nicco, it's a way of life for many. There's nothing wrong with the lessons Julie's children are learning..in fact it's admirable.. to think a few kids will grow up and have respect for the world around them...

His smile really does say it all, it's pride stretching from one corner to the other... to be framed, maybe? :)

Good for him. And I'm a sure a nice dinner(s) he has got for you guys.

I seen nothing wrong with hunting, as long as it is just not for fun where people just dump the bodies and dont use any of them.

My BFs dad went hunting a few weeks ago. They got a nice deer they say and they didnt tag it right so the county police took it away from them. What jerks. (they put the tag on the wrong ear). But where they were hunting the encourage people to do it as the deer out the pretty much out number the population of the small town (3500 people)

He looks very happy!

I must say I really respect you, that deer was wild and had a 'proper' life so to speak as opposed to a lot of the domesticated livestock which are 'farmed'. Much better and more honourable to hunt yourself that pick it up from the shop and most importantly that animal got a chance to live!

Thank you everyone, for seeing the other side. And for not turning something productive into a bash fest.

Everyone has there own lifestyle, and I am very comfortable with mine. Yes, I promote hunting... far more humane than buying meat from the grocery store. Do You eat meat? Do you think that meat was alive at one time? How did it live? I bet you get my point. :)

Blue, it was one shot, thru the front, and blew his heart... CLEAN. Except, hubby didn't get to have fried deer heart this time. :lol-sign:

Well most hunting accidents are caused by older people excerting themselves or falling from treestands. ;)
I am from a family with hunters, so is my husband. We usually hunt on private land, so there isn't alot of others to worry about.

But one of the main things is for a child to show respect for a firearm, and willing to have "Dad" or "Mom" standing over and correcting and teaching so the child learns how to handle himself and the gun.

My husband and my father each took a boy out on opening morning. Then my husband has alternated between the two... He tried taking them both out together, but it was too "talkative" to say the least. :D

One of the best things about hunting.... A kid actually sees the cause and effect of a firearm. A gun is not some "untouchable toy". They realize what happens when you pull a trigger of a gun.

I think it's great and I totally support what you're teaching your sons. You're right that it teaches them the reality of what guns can do and they learn to have more respect for the animals they kill. A lot of meat most people eat, chickens, cows, etc are bred specifically to be slaughtered. They don't have much of a life... but these wild animals at least have the chance to live a life. Yes some are hunted, some are not. If no one hunted the deer especially would over populate in this area more than they already have. I've seen deer run clear across 66 and 495 out here and those are HUGE traffic zones and it's horribly dangerous for drivers. There's so many of them. Anyways... I plan on doing a little hunting myself in the near future as does Brendan. We're going to hunt duck with my Toller when I get one and also plan on doing a little deer, turkey, etc... I think it's perfectly fine if you respect the animals you're hunting and don't waste the animal... if you plan on eating it, fine... if not... don't kill it.

EXACTLY! Unless you are a vegan you have absolutely no right to bash hunting. I wish I had the will power to only eat or buy wild game and farm raised meat. I feel bad for promoting the way animals are slaughtered by purchasing meat from the grocery store. I also think it is more disgraceful to say "I eat meat but oh, I could never KILL anything" than it is to be the person killing the animal. I incluce myself in that. I know I couldnt pull the trigger if it came down to it but I still eat meat and I feel that makes me a weak person. I think it is very respectable to be able to say that you could kill whatever you are eating. You sort if "earn" it I think.

I also dont understand how people think eating meat is wrong? How is it morally wrong? We are animals as any other. They eat each other, why cant we eat them? We have canine teeth for eating meat and we require the nutrition and protein in meat to be healthy. I have never understood that reasoning. It makes sense to me if people dont eat meat or certain for religious reasons but if you are athiest or christian (which most people I know are) then where does the belief that it is WRONG to eat meat come from?
