But is there any physical feature your dogs have that you at one point just did. not. like in dogs? I know that sounds weird, but I used to HATE tails that curled over a dog's back. I'm not sure why, but it looked very wrong to me. Now I have 5 dogs with curly tails and I LOVE it. It's so nice. They have tails but they don't get in the way so many long tails do. (or hit you in the legs). They're very expressive too. They hold them down or up and uncurled often.

I'm not sure why I had this thing against them for so long! :lol-sign:

I wouldn't say I disliked rough coats in JRTs, but I preferred smooth by far, then I got my first JRT. Beacon was the roughest rough ever lol. Now I prefer the scruffy JRTs over the smooths.

well, it's not exactly a physical trait, but I've never really liked labs (sorry lab owners, I don't know why - I just don't), and Eli is more and more obviously part lab as he grows up. And I adore him, of course.

When I was younger I always picked out dogs that I loved with flowing long hair especially in herders and now for the most part smooth herders is what catches my eyes the most

Not that I didn't like slender dogs before, but after getting Roman I have a strong preference for a sighthound-ish kind of look.

Seriously, when I was describing what I like physically in a dog to a friend, she burst out laughing and said "And how did you wind up with Meg?"

I don't like docked tails, floppy ears, dark colored dogs without white trim, or brindle at all.

Amazing how quickly you learn to see past that when The Dog is snuggled up next to you in your bed, quite certain that she is right where she belongs.

I used to not like bully/mastiffy breeds at all, but now, except bull terriers and English bulldogs (no offense to anyone that owns one), they are some of my favorite types of dogs.

Really, I don't like longhaired dogs. I mean, I like to look at them and pet them, but I don't like to upkeep them. I much prefer a thick, short coated dog like a GSD or Lab. And Chloe is fuzzy. Luckly she doesn't require much grooming, but her fly away hairs when she isn't groomed (like now) drives me up the wall.

When I was looking for a new dog, I said about the litter of pups Chloe came from, "I don't really want one. They'll be long haired and insanely active, not to mention barky. And they have no socialization. That just isn't what I want." Then I saw Chloe and epic FAIL. LOL Funny thing is that if it weren't for her anxiety problems she'd be perfect in my eyes. I even love her snarky bitchiness. I'm going to try out anti anxiety meds this summer when I have money to see how she does on them.

Oh, and I've come to the conclusion I like Chloe's tail better than Rose's tail. Chloe's tail is really thin and willowy and she can arch it over her back when she's posturing. When she wags it it doesn't club you, unlike Rose's thick otter tail that can knock out babies. :lol-sign:

same here.. can't stand splayed feet... or flat feet. I gotta have tight feet with nicely arched toes lol

Well I really mean what characteristics that have grown on you compared to your past taste in dogs. I really did loathe the way curled tails looked but now I really don't want a dog without a curled tail.

I still maintain tails that go over the back are amazing. (Especially after working with dogs that like to beat you with their tails- not a problem if it's over the back!)

You would've hated to see the Cavalier at the agility clinic today lol, her toe hair was soooo long it made her feet look twice as long as they actually were! It was bothering me soooo much!

Oh yeah! My legs constantly have tail-whip bruises! Blue LOVES kids but I always have to hold is collar because I'm afraid that he'll hurt them with his wiggle butt tail so I have to make sure he's facing forward! Those things HURT man!!!!

I used to be fondest of enormous, plush coats on dogs. I liked rough collies, rough Chows, English sheepdogs etc. If it looked like a yeti, I was all over it. I liked how warm and thick that fur was, I liked brushing it and running my hands through it.

Now the practicality of shorter, smoother coats has grown on me. All the mexican street dogs have short fur, and it's actually quite soft and beautiful when the dog is healthy and clean.
