Joint Supplements

My Chocy (100 lbs) was diagnosed with arthritus a few months ago. I knew from past experiences to always give my dogs Glucosamine to avoid joint issues. But apparantly it wasn't enough. The vet gave us Phycox, they are chews and he gets one twice a day. Within a week his limp got better, within a month cleared up. His mom, Dixie was the next to develop it, she started the Phycox and all is well already. I now give it to all my dogs, as a preventative. I don't know the strength I don't believe it comes in different strengths. But I have talked to other vets about it and they also swear by the stuff. Google it, it is amazing.

I give Cali a small scoop of HylaSport Canine each day. I forget the exact measurement, but I estimate that it'll last a good 120 days. It's not cheap, but I don't think it's crazy expensive either.

It's mostly to try and prevent arthritis and other joint issues, since Cali has luxating patellas, but I read many good reviews prior to ordering it.

Cosequin chewable for Logan, one twice a day. Free through IAADP :D I'll probably switch him to Dasuquin non-chewables (no extra flavorings and crap to set off potential allergies) when my supply runs out, and they will also be free through IAADP.

Gavroche doesn't get one at the moment, but usually he gets generic ones from Kroger, or the one-a-day name brand ones that I can't remember the name of.

Jaia and Cara get:

MSM: 1000 mg per day
Glusosamine: 1500 mg per day
Chondroitin: 1200 mg per day
Ester C: 1000 mg per day

I buy them at the people pharmacy. Cara has had hip dysplasia for 9 years and she's still doing very well.

I use Dasuquin. One delicious chunky square a day for each (which I'm too lazy to go see how much of everything that means).

Auggie gets half a Glyco-Flex II on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Payton gets half a Glyco-Flex I on the same schedule.

Pepper doesn't get anything, though I have thought about giving her some I... but since she isn't a sport dog, nor nearly as intense as the boys in her every day life, I don't have the same concerns about her.

Those that use Glyco Flex: how do you get your dogs to eat them? I like the ingredients, but I have to make Blaze swallow it.

Do you use the chews? My dogs aren't picky at all, so that probably helps! I give it to Rylie as a "treat" with her breakfast.

My guys will just eat them straight. I typically put it in their food bowl and they eat it while eating their kibble. They definitely don't dislike them because both dogs have been known to eat around/spit back out other pills in their food... I guess they just don't find the taste offensive. We use the regular pills.

She's only 2 years 10 months with no signs of joint issues at all, but I give her half a Cosiqiuen (sp?) regular strength + (I think) once a day. She also gets fish oil every other day.

I use the chews. Mia's not crazy about them but will eat it once she realizes I'm not giving out better food. Summer eats anything pretty much. They get it as a treat for when I'm headed to work.

I normally use Pet Naturals Hip & Joint and Wapiti Labs Mobility. The Pet Naturals is a glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM blend, in a tablet form. Missy gets 1 1/2 tablets, Jack gets 1/2 tablet. The Mobility is a Chinese herb/elk velvet blend, and it comes in a powder, three scoops for Missy and one for Jack. They just get mixed in with their food.

I recently got a couple of Hyalogic products for free, so I'll be trying those in place of the Pet Naturals when I run out.
