OMG!!! I'm so heartbroken right now I don't know what to do!! I just read over some of the posts on the Jlo thread. At the very end there was a link to a website. I clicked on it (JLoDown.com?? maybe). Anyway - before, I didn't know all this about her. I thought - before you develop an opinion, find out all you can, right?? That's what people should do - get all the facts 1st. So, I went to this web site and on the left there was a video link about fur investigation. Everything I know told me not to click that link but something in my heart made me do it. Oh, it was horrifying. People taking animals and slamming them repeatedly on the ground trying to kill them and others taking rods and beating them on the head - one was being SKINNED ALIVE!!! After just a few seconds I had to click it off and just sit and cry, I don't even know how it ended but I can only imagine, I don't want to but I can - to think the pain and fear these animals are going through and the only comfort you can get out of it is knowing that EVENTUALLY it will be all over and pain free for them. What a horrible thing to do!! What type of living breathing human could even IMAGINE such a thing - let alone do it. Those people should be tourtured a while - let them know what it's like. It reminds me of somehting I saw on tv once. There was a show - something like amazing home videos - how criminals are caught. There were these 2 people, they took a dog by it's collar, one held it while the other kicked and beat it. Eventually they threw it in a sack - bloody and broken- and tied the end. While the dog was trying to escape they shot it several times, but not killing it. They then doused it with gas and set it on fire - the dog screamed until it was eventually dead - several, several min. later. The people were caught and even though the judge saw the home tape they made they still only got a slap on the wrist. OMG it just enrages me to know that this is going on and there's nothing I can do about it!! It will take years I think to get those images out of my head - oh, it's just horrible!!

oh honey - don't be sorry for posting it - consider it an eye opener. You know, everyone knows these things go on but kind of push them out of their mind (me included i guess). If more people just saw what I did I think it would be the 1st step in stopping it. As far as a "healing process" I'm still kinda new to the site so I've spent the past hour or so reading other posts and that really helps - you guys are funny - that's enough to brighten anyones day!! I don't like furs either. I think they belong where God put them - ON THE BODIES THEY CAME ON!! I'd probably protest the fur store myself - fliers, pickets, the whole 9 yards. It saddens me to know that even if I did it though - I'm sure their doors would just open the next day...if not there, somewhere else. I'm not a hating person...I can think of 2 people that I'm aquainted with that would come very, very close-but I don't hate them. However, the people who do this sort of thing, them I hate. I hate everything they stand for...fashion, style, whatever the reason they do it...it's not good enough!! I'm glad you posted that, really, don't be sorry. The more people who see it, the less likely it is going to happen again. I'm going to start by e-mailing everyone in my address book the link - I know at least a few of them will forward it on - from there hopefully it will spread. You DID do a good thing :).

Just think, every time you see someone wearing fur you'll have some insight into their character.

Todd Oldham and several other designers have come out vocally against the use of furs. There are so many beautiful faux furs that there is no reason for even the most rabid fashionista to wear the pelt of something that was killed solely for vanity.

I can assure you, I don't even buy leather. Fur???? What the heck is wrong with people that have to wear fur?? I don't get it, never will. If I had the bucks for a fur coat.........I'd spend it instead on saving animals in need.

I realize that even if I were a vegetarian, something living has to be killed for me to eat. We live in a world that is based on a food chain. BUT . . . don't make the living thing - plant or animal - suffer needlessly, and if you kill it - EAT IT!

Cruella DeVil - it wasn't that long ago that I realized that was Cruel Devil how appropriate.

I really don't get fur. Why use it? Why is it getting popular again? Where is my spray can?

I mean leather is different. It depends on your values if you use it or not etc. etc. BUT at least it's a bi-product of the meat industry. The animals are still killed but most of the money is coming from the meat.

I just don't get the point. Not with all the faux furs

The only thing you can do is use your outrage and take action. There aren't enough people actually fighting for the animals. Horrors happen every day. Worse than this. If you're disgusted, write letters! Find out who's doing this and tell everyone you know. Compose a letter and pass a copy out to everyone at work for them to sign, then mail them all seperately. Write to the newspapers and the TV stations. Call your congressperson. There is so much that people can do and it's so easy!!! You just have to do it.

While I don't support PETA, I do belong to several reputable animal rights groups. There are a lot of them. We can do something! We have a voice in this! You just have to use the power you have.

I do write letters. I'm a letter fan. :D I wrote and complained to a tv channel because one of their fashion shows had women wearing fur all the time. It really annoyed me.

The video is horrible but you have to realize that that is what they taped it for. I doubt j lo wears racoon dogs and anyplace that wants to make money on fur isn't going to be slamming them into the ground. Didn't peta originally put the video out? Think of the source. A real fur farm electrocutes the animals and they are dead before skinning. I'm not saying it is a great thing but it is better than the overseas stuff. If your going to wear it just know where it comes from. I love leather and I know about how well those cows need treated to get good leather. They can't even use barb wire in the fields. I know of one fur farm that was ran great and nothing was ever out of place and they went out of business because oversea fur is cheaper. It might be great that they went out of business but now its just more people that are going to get it from unregulated places. I don't get the point of fur because I don't event hink it looks good but if I eat meat i'm not going to tell anyone not to wear fur.

i dont think it matters who sent out the video or what real fur farms do, the point is that animals are killed purely for fur, cows yes they are killed for the meat and the leather is just a bi product but a fox, racoon or small animal that we dont take meat from is disgusting, even if they gave them an injection then took the fur its still pointless, dont we all have central heating?

Have you ever seen the shows on dateline about the little furry figurines they sell at flea markets and those little novelty shops? Its cat and dog fur on them  ! I didn't believie it for the longest time and then I saw that show. I had always wanted them when i was little and I wondered why I wasnt allowed to get them.

Amen.

It took me forever to reconcile with my mother marrying a man who hunted. It still makes me uneasy, but I realized that when he kills an animal, he has a lot of respect for it. He makes it as quick as possible, covers it up, and uses every part of it that he can find a use for. And he buries what he can't use. He doesn't hand their heads on the wall, or stuff them and display them, which I think is the most hideous violation of dignity ever.

Emma, I have to think that hunters like your stepfather have much more respect and perspective than most of us who just go to the grocery and buy meat nicely packaged, allowing us to be completely nonchalant and blissfully ignore the source.

Bet he's not habitually wasteful when he cooks or eats either, is he?

No, and he's a brilliant cook. I've really come around to the fact that he's one of the last of the "good guys". For a while, though, he took a lot of guff from me; no one's good enough for my mother. :) But he proved himself. And his lab loves to go hunting. They don't usually get anything.

Oh how it breaks my heart and enrages me at the same time. My mom has a friend who waltzes around in her mink and it is not even pretty (well, to me it isn't). Fur only looks good on animals unless it is faux. I have a faux fur coat and it is so much better because I can wash it if I have to and you can get faux fur in all sorts of exotic colors and prints so why take real fur away from the animals.

I used to like J.Lo but now I won't even buy her music even if I like it, which I do like her new song out, and once I may have bought the cd but now I am not contributing to her salary at all, I won't rent her movies (but that is mostly b/c they suck), I won't buy her music, and I won't buy her clothes.

Let's put it this way, if she were the only supplier of food in all of the world, I would eat the grass from my lawn.

I couldn't even watch two seconds of that video. I can't take stuff like that. I've never had a fur coat or anything, and I've never had a desire to have one.
