i was standing in line the other day....and i hear a mom talking to her little boy...who was prob 4 or 5. I didnt hear what they were saying, but all of a sudden the mom goes (in a very stern voice)...

"Steven, Jesus does NOT like it when you lie. How do you ever expect to get into Heaven???" :yikes: :yikes:

I just wanted to turn around and be like, "woman, Jesus proabably doesnt like you tormenting your 5 yr old either..."

Just because I'm in one of those moods today, I'd have been tempted to say:
"He didn't like that you told your husband he was the father, either."

People put that fear in their children so they can have control over them. It's sad. Not saying they are wrong for believing in Jesus. I am saying that what she did was not right.

That is very sad. :( IMO that is depressing that someone would scare someone into behaving in that way.

LMAO Andrew!

Neither do I. My mom does but she let all of us choose if we wanted to go to church or not. All my other siblings are really into the whole God thing. It just isn't my cup of tea. I tried and it just did not work.

Ugh, I agree. That is pathetic. I've heard parents say stuff like this to their children as well... what a horrible use of scare tactics =/

I agree with Dena. Jesus isn't there so we can threaten our children. She should be letting her child know the great and wonderful things about Jesus not using him as a parenting technique.

You shouldn't scare a child into believing in God, and you shouln't use God to scare children into behaving. That should come through consistency, reinforcement and discipline. Threats are an awful and weak thing to rely on when trying to raise and shape a child into a good and happy person.

How awful. :( Poor child.

Same here!

I heard a mother say to her kid once "If you don't listen to me, God is going to get mad at you. Little boys are to listen to their elders...you don't want to be a sinner do you?"

Ugh, it's disgusting. I'm not a religious person, but I believe in the right to express yourself in your religion to a point (that it doesn't intrude on others) and personally, this is just unacceptable, JMHO.

every time I hear a parent use something...be it Jesus, Santa CLaus, Easter bunny..etc. to get a child to behave it makes my flesh crawl. I want to look them straight in the eye and say, 'why don't YOU try just being the parent' if you're so afraid to be the 'bad guy' that you must use some higher power in a child's mind...then don't be a parent. sorry...it's something I just can't stand! lol I had a friend once that used me...'if you don't behave, Deb's gonna get really mad'. oh yeah....that lasted long. talk about weak parenting.......
