Can anyone recommend me an affordable jacket/coat for a dog.
I want it to hold up pretty good, but be under $40
I want it to be light weight and just help take the chill off. It doesnt have to keep them really warm and toasty. just a little protection would be great!

I like the horse blanket style

Last winter I got almost this Ruffwear Jacket, just a earlier model of it.

K-9 Overcoat? Dog Jacket ? All-Weather Canine Protective Outerwear - from Ruff Wear

I was very impressed with it. It held up great and I go to the dog park all the time, which is a forest preserve so there is a lot of running through branches, muck, thistles etc.

It had a durable, smoother water resistant outside that didn't snag

And Kaylee loved it :)

It says it's 60 dollars on the site but I managed to get it for 20 something by searching around the Internet

I've gotten all my dogs' coats at Pet Smart of Petco. I don't like to spend a lot of money. The only one that didn't hold up all that well was Lyric's bomber jacket. It was not leather, but some pseudo leather and it got a few holes in it. Of course it didn't help that his big, Dober-teeth went into it at times. He would get all silly and buck, just like a horse and reach down and around...and bite his jacket. But the fleece part held up. The little dogs' jackets, I've had for a long time and they're still great. They have very cozy coats for these north Idaho winters. Toker doesn't have one. She could probably do with one. Maybe I'll get one this winter, but so far, she runs so dang hard, she doesn't seem to get cold. Then we come back inside after a bit.

But you could look online too. A lot of people love Fido Fleece. They may be pricey. Or just shop around and see what you can find locally.

When you get something, I hope we see pictures.

Greenhawk dog blankets. Best value for the money I have ever found (and I have a huge dog coat collection)

Dekka in hers

Snip in his

Bounce in hers

The ones Snip and Dekka are wearing are 3-4 year old in those pics.

I have a couple of fido fleeces and find them great for under layers, or for fall. But they don't block wind, or moisture. So if your dog really feels the cold, or you live someplace that gets nasty a fido fleece on its own isn't going to cut it. (and they are horrible for picking up little burrs lol)

(In dekka's pic she was wearing a fleece layer, a flannel layer and then her shedrow it was -20c or -4F in that pic!!)

yup, i layer luce up for outdoors when it's really cold. she has a horse blanket to go over the fleece. the horse blanket offers no belly protection, so the fleece underneath is really nice.

(also yup with the burrs- luce runs through the garden and comes out looking like a freaking porcupine)

i like the ruff wear jacket, but its too expensive!
I would like something to help with the wind too.

I like those jackets Dekka posted! do they do alright for wind? I dont mean wind proof, the dogs would just like a little protection from wind, and cold

Wind and water proof yet breatheable. Same as their horse blankets :)
