Hmm.

Best Friend? No, my husband is. :)

But do their hearts beat in the very center of my being day in and day out? Absolutely. There are no words to define the bond between a person and their dog.

Anthropomorphizing? Not really. They are creatures that would go to the end of the earth for me, it would be a shame for me to not do the same for them, would it not? They kiss my tears away, do something funny at just the right moment, remind me that life isn't all that bad when you have three giant goofballs to keep life exciting and full of muddy paw prints on a freshly cleaned floor.

I have an indescribable connection to my Buddy Boy. I look into his eyes and they are windows to his soul. He hurts, I hurt. I hurt, he hurts. I dare someone to tell me that these creatures are not of this world. For them to know... when we need a shoulder, when we need our tears gently kissed away- why, there is nothing far greater in this world...

not anthropomorphizing. i'm just socially challenged, and if it weren't for the dogs i would have very little in the way of companionship.

i do however view them and treat them as dogs.

I consider them friends but not on the same level as a human/human friendship. Dog/human relationships are friendships in a sence but different to human/human ones.

However, I don't lie when I say that I like my dogs more than 95% of people.

Kona is definately my best friend.

She is the one that brought me out of a long depression after feeling so alone. She was there to snuggle me and let me know it would all be ok, and that she is there for me.

My problem with considering my dogs my best friends is that I rely on my best friends to call me on my sh*t and point out when I am being an idiot. They can help me think through things that maybe I'm not seeing so clearly. I rely on them to help keep me from ruining things, sometimes. So far, Milo can only point out when I am being lazy or cranky.

That said, I would call them my best companions. They are sweet, affectionate, and can be either calm or playful. I am happier when they are around and I learn a lot from them.

Gonzo is the best friend I could ever ask for... He knows ME, better than anyone, and he loves me for who I am. He can make me smile by just looking at me a certain way. He won't leave my side when I'm sick, or feeling down. He would absolutely give his life for mine.

I don't think I'm anthropomorphizing at all. I'm not attaching unrealistic, human characteristics to him that aren't there... all of the traits that I listed are absolutely real.

But, I guess I have a different view of "friends" than most people. I don't base the value of my friendship with some one on specific events, or how long we've known each other, or what we have in common, or typical things like that. What is way more important to me is how they make you feel, and the connection that you share.

I would not consider Fozzie my best friend... I LOVE him, to peices, and I don't love Gonzo any more than him. But, even though I really couldn't ask for a better pup, I just don't share the same bond with Fozzie.

Since I have my Wishbone, I always have a lively day almost everyday (since I only met my human friends on weekends) and his my newest bestfriend now. Glad my human best friends have their own pets now and our get together become happier.

Absolutely! :) It doesn't matter how bad of a day I've had, one Sadie kiss and everything is ok again :) I carry on a conversation with her sometimes and will turn to look at her and she has her head cocked sideways, like she really is listening to me.
