Is anyone learning another language???

I'm enrolling on a Welsh speaking course tonight!!! It's a mad language, and I have a poor grasp of English never mind anything else lol. I did get a B in German though (when I was 16.....).

Any tips???

Yes! My brother and sister are homeschooled and my parents got "Rosetta Stone" for them. My brother is learning Japanese and my sister is learning French. Even though I'm not in school, I decided to take French with my sister just for fun, and so that we'd be able to talk to each other in French. It's so fun! Rosetta Stone is awesome, and I hope someday I can speak fluently!

I don't have any real tips, I took THREE Spanish classes in school, but really didn't learn ANYTHING. Rosetta Stone is MUCH more helpful than any class I've taken.

MY advice is to watch as many movies/read as much as you can in that language...just keep it around the house. Even just playing it in the background helps, with subtitles, or without. Especially movies which you already know a lot of the script.

I took French for years in middle/high school, and was not quite fluent but was conversational at least....I felt like I lost so much of it after I graduated, but recently watched a few movies and understood a good deal of it, also am reading some (easy) books in French, and can understand a good bit of them.

Maybe group yourself with other people in the class once a week for coffee or something and try to only speak the language. You'd have to wait until you have a good grasp of the language first. lol

English is my first language.

I've got about 4 years of French on me, but don't really speak it. I don't know, the language just doesn't hold my interest or appeal to me- but it was better than Spanish (the only two options offered in high school).

I'm dabbling in American Sign Language and Hungarian/Magyar. I couldn't find any tutors or classes for the Hungarian, so I'm learning it on my own, through free websites, and likely incorrectly.

I should learn Spanish, just for the job. But I'd rather learn Italian. Sigh!

Been learning German in bits for a year now. Haven't gotten much progress though because I get maybe an hour a week to work on it. It's slow going, to be sure.

You can try Livemocha if you need something. It's a bit Rosetta Stoneish but with a bit more guidance. I really didn't find Rosetta Stone to be all that useful as you basically have to figure it out yourself, which is OK for vocabulary but not so much for grammar. Livemocha is useful for German, but it also has a lot of people leaving comments as to the...strangeness of German. That and a German grammar book have seen me through some of the rougher parts.

Other than that, immerse yourself in the language as much as you can. Podcasts, news sites, TV shows/movies, forums, etc.

For me, English is my second language, my mother tongue is French. Though learning English was not difficult, it's all around me.
