Chloe was hit by a car last monday while I was at work. :(

My friends brother eric was the only one home and I told him to make sure that my pups only go outside if he was watching them because they can get out through the fence if they wanted. I've never seen them even try when I was there but I wanted to keep them safe. Well he let them out some time early and just left them there without watching them. He had no clue they where gone until I got home from work a good 4 or so hours later!! Well they where gone and I went crazy looking for them everywhere, in the park, up in the woods, where dogs hang out, at the amstaff girls house where I thought Lucas might go, but I couldn't find them. This lady called my house and said she found lucas and that I better hurry cause she thinks my other dog was hit by a car. I hoped it wasn't her the entire way as I went frantic trying to get there as fast as possible. Well it was her and after the initial shock of her laying there with those eyes pleading up to me I got her in the car and to the vets as fast as possible. Well it was useless the vet said she had brain damage and broken bones and it would be better for her to put her to sleep so I did and I hate myself for it. I know it was the best thing for her but you should've seen her eyes. You could tell she was in pain :(

Anyways I just wish I would've stayed home that day or called and told Eric to make sure the dogs where in or something! My friends back and she has been helping a bit. Even though I've only had Chloe for less then a year we had a sorta bond. She was the one who would come and snuggle with me and cheer me up when I was down. Now Lucas is depressed and scared of loud bangs and keeps looking for Chloe through the window. We saw a black lab from a distance and lucas went crazy. Jumping everywhere, wagging his tail a mile a minute, just all around excited and wanting to go get the lab, but when they got closer and they sniffed I think he realized it wasn't her cause he was all depressed looking again. He didn't even want to play. :(

RIP Chloe

I'm really sorry about Chloe. She's at rainbow bridge now, where she can't be hurt anymore.

I am soo sorry about chloe. Poor thing. Did you ever find your pups? Chloe is in a better place now and she is no longer in any pain. Our pug got hit by a car about 2 - 3 months ago but he made it...barely. I am so sorry for your loss.

aww babyblue. :( My last dog was hit by a car and died. We didn't even have time to get to the vet. We had him a short time too, only 4 months, four months of blood sweat and tears trying to make him a "respectable" doggie. I feel your loss, and Lucas's . I jump and cringe every time I hear a loud car door slam or a bang from outside... "shudders*. Lucas needs lots of "mama" time right now, and I bet you have plenty of love to give to him. Don't feel like it is your fault. I do that sometimes "what if I had made sure the boys had closed the door" "what if I had told them they couldn't light a fire in the fire place so they didn't need to go out for wood..." "what if I had just run out in my stocking feet instead of running for shoes.."(that last one is my worst lament) All it brings is pain and tears. And I have to think of Hunter. He is without pain now. He is happy and dancing and just waiting for us to come play with him again. He's with my old dog Dixie who died of old age right before he came home to live with me. Now Chloe is playing with them, along with Smkie's Bronkie and so many others that we here all adored. I know you probably feel so sad and empty when you look for that sweet face and she isn't there. I know you probably can only picture her broken sad body and feel her pain, but you should try to remember her the happy baby she was. I also know that you will heal eventually, at least to the point where you don't cry every time you think about her, and Lucas will greatly help along that process. So will we, here at Chazhound as much as we possibly can. I am so sorry for your loss. I'm sending you lots of mental hugs. Just let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

That is extremely sad! :( At least Chloe is no longer in pain. I think you made the right decision, even though it was a really tough one. It is never easy to lose a pet you love so much, especially when they aren't that old (I lost a puppy at 10 months and I still think about him a lot, even though it was 6 years ago).

I'm so sorry about Chloe. She was such a beautiful dog. Her face was so sweet. This was not your fault do not blame yourself. Some things like this are inevitable.
