Many of you know I have been involved is breed rescue for years and for those that do not trust me I have heard many stories and I think I have heard just about every sorry ass lame excuse I can hear for giving up your dog. Thing is I get no reward for what I am doing other then knowing I have helped an animal that otherwise must be put to death.
Those who know me well knew that this week I was ready to throw in the towel so to speak and never help another dog but my own because the heartbreak is endless. This is not aimed at any of the responsible people on here by any means but maybe to some of the lurkers or anyone thinking that we or me in particular am going to justify your need to breed dogs. Or I am going to yell and scream at those of you who think a dog is a good thing to have as a puppy or at the time but when your life changes it has to go.
I spend countless hours daily trying to clean up your messes!! My home is disrupted by your stupidity !! My new carpet has to be cleaned daily and I have no life outside of cleaning up after you. Extra money that would afford my hubby and myself a good vacation goes instead to cleaning up behind you !!!
I have suffered through a very heart breaking choice this week with Maverick but the choice is that he goes to his new home and let me say why that is. Because of the cold insensitive hearts of the human being dogs are disposable. They are here to serve a purpose whether that purpose is to make money selling the babies or to fill avoid in your life until you find something else to fill that void then the dog is on it's own and the people like myself have to come behind you and clean up your mess!!
You all say in the back of your mind " Just don't do it then " I say if not me and people like me what becomes of them ?
Today I had to take in this old man, Oscar. Why because his owner has problems and after 9 years she has no choice so I agree. She was going to take him to Lied animal shelter where he would be put down on Sunday that is all the time they give them. He has served his purpose and made her 12 litters and been a good old boy and woke her up when the house was on fire but now he no longer is something she can make room for. When she got here her story was different then that which she told me on the phone. She is not broke she has $3600.00 from the sale of her home to get out of town and find a new place. Now if that were me you can bet your sweet hind quarters that my dogs would go too. Anyway our shelter is over crowded and no place for these guys and here is sweet 9 year old Oscar who is looking out the window for his mommie to please come back who of course will not. I have to see if I can not make him a little happy and find a good place for him.

Normally I keep this to myself and just go on but I feel I have to speak out because you Backyard breeders almost got me to give up!!!

All I have to say is thank you. Thank you for your dedication to these poor dogs. Thank you for caring enough to find them a new home. Thank you for being who you are and for what you do each and every day. Don't let BYBing stop you from helping those in need. Maybe one day people will finally get THEY are the reason for the overpopulation and death of thousands upon thousands of dogs.

Yes my daughter has finally agreed to start to get into this but as I have told her you will only then begin to know true heartache. Thank you Karyn I so need another place to house these unwanted babies that come to me looking for one more chance to just make someone happy. If you all could see the sad eyes of Oscar as he watches every car go by in hopes it is his mom you would know too.

Thanks Jess and you do too. I just hate BYB and inconsiderate dog owners and I know hate is a bad word but forgive me I so do hate them. Now my house is stinking like dogs and pee but ok I will wash it. I just can not see a sweet boy like this die. He is a good loving boy really and so sad. I hope I can make him smile again.

Oh Auss........I don't know how you DO go on. My heart breaks just seeing pictures and hearing stories, if I were there to see them in person and get my hands on them I would crack.

Thank you for being strong and caring :)

I did meet her and as I ususlly try not to judge and just take the babies this one I brought to tears. She has called me back twice tonight racked with guilt and looking for a place where she can have him. But now that will be on my terms because she gave him up. I know many of you will say not to give him back but I have to consider that he really stands little chance and he does love her.

Aus, I'm not going to say to say what you should or should not do... some people are irresponsible and just plain make me sick and can think of no one but themselves, BUT on the other hand, there is the rare occasion that people make stupid decisions on the spur of the moment...

If I had a fence I wouldnt think twice and take him Aus. My two hear but do better with hand signals, and BD is half aussie. After meeting Sawyer, I understand the attitude a bit better. Get him a bell for his collar.

you do a great job Aus, I have full plans to help with the "mass clean up" of the mess BYB's and irresponsible owners leave behind.
I have ended up in tears many times when you search "a male medium sized dog from this state" and 120 dogs pop up and you bet your ass there arn't 120 people on that page right now wanting a dog each.
Its sad, and people just don't get it. I feel so fortunate I found out about all these issues, doesn't make me see the world as a better place, but it gives me more fo a chance to help

I read thatr while sitting here, the 2 blue boys curled around my legs asleep. Both are these lovley sweet boys that probably wouldve died if we hadn't taken them, and they were a very lucky 2. I can't even comrpehend how out of hand the domestic dog population is.

You're wonderful, Aussie. I too can't tell what you should decide to do with him, but I'm sure you'll make the right choice. :)

You know the thing I think that got me the most with the big old man Oscar is that the owner surrendering him said please don't neuter him because he really is a great breeder and has good looking pups. Go figure. My house has two dogs in it because our rescue is over filled and it is a three day weekend and I hear please don't have him fixed !!! He has marked the walls and I am so happy to fulfill her request of please don't fix him. *** bangs head on wall*** maybe now some of you can see my passion on some things

What you're doing is wonderful regardless of how heartbreaking and difficult it may be at times. What you wrote is so absolutely true.

I fostered for 7 months. She was rehomed since to a wonderful place in Oklahoma. All I can say is that I think of Ms. Gaia every day and every night.

To everyone that fosters, has fostered, will foster, work in a shelter, contribute in some way to helping homeless dogs- Thank you. Know that there's a bunch of doggies that will NEVER forget you. And there's a bunch of people as well, that know the sacrifices you make, and we appreciate it.

Thank you.
