Is it true or not that giving ice cubes and ice water can cause bloat in dogs? I'm not talking a few cubes but a big bowl of ice.

Myth.
Gulping mass amounts of water, regardless of temperature, seems to be a possible trigger for bloat. But even that isn't definitive.

I never give very cold water when dog or person is hot. Had a dr tell me years ago he had a farmer drop dead after drinking ice water when he had heat stroke. My cousin cold hosed a friends hot dog and it died. No health issues.

So I think it's more a shock thing and just don't do it. But also think very very very rare to have an issue.

A hot dog is panting, thus swallowing a lot of air. Gulping a bunch of water on top of that can lead to bloat. Drinking water won't do a lot to cool a dog off, but they may WANT to drink a lot. Always best to only allow it in moderation if they have been heavily panting.

I think this is what cause people to blame ice - hot dogs were allowed to drink heavily. The water just happened to be really cold because it was an effort to cool the dog off even more, but all that panting had already led to a belly full of air.
