Here a good spay from an AAHA clinic will run in the $300-$400 range (more for a dog in heat or a dog that's pregnant). The low-cost charity places charge $30-$50 (and they don't monitor or screen either). The non-AAHA clinics charge from $75-$150 (and don't monitor).

I would just take her into your vet ans say you want the U/S. Then depending on the results, talk to your vet and take his advice on wich would be easier for her. Spay or whelp (if she is preg) then at least you know.

Honestly, she looks preggers to me.....

I wrote off Di's weight gain, I thought the FIL was over feeding her, and by the time I knew what was up she was to far to spay abort...

I would for sure talk with the vet, and go on their advice....

I agree with this. As much as I know you don't want Ada to whelp a litter if the vet thinks that would be safer for her vs. undergoing a spay while hw+ I'd listen.

Just my two cents of course.

Would the stress of whelping and raising a litter, especially as a first time mama ( which I'm guessing she is) really be less then that of a spay? Genuine question, as I have never whelped a litter.

Sending hopeful vibes that it's kibble puppies instead of real ones!

Is there *any* other way to see if she's pregnant other than an expensive U/S?

If she is pregnant (to be honest, my money is on that, that's alot of weight gain in 15 days for just food) to me she looks past spaying time - she's pretty big, I see why your concerned!

If I were you, I would get the U/S (or any other cheaper way to find out) and start preparing now for puppies (if needed) while you have a little time to purchase things over time so as to not drain your bank. Again, if she is pregnant.

Best of luck! If she is pregnant, how about making a list of things you'll need and post it on chaz? I'm sure we would all be willing to ship a few things (towels, puppy formula, and whatever else you will need).

Hoping for a good outcome and that she isn't pregnant! I'm sorry I didn't read about which treatment she is undergoing, but keep in mind if the risk is too great to spay and treatment continues, talk with your vet about how to handle the puppies. I can only go by a rescue that was pregnant, treatment continued because the girl's life was priority and HW was too severe, and all the puppies were born dead or had to be put down because of severe cleft palates.

Thinking positive thoughts for you!

I'm not sure if she is pregnant, but I think it would be way too much on her to have puppies especially since she is HW positive.. so even spaying her and letting her whelp a litter can be risky. :( I think the whelp would be more risky, honestly. Here's to hoping she isn't pregnant.

This. Also, like someone else mentioned, what are the possible effects of her whelping a litter while on the HW treatment?? I can't imagine it would be good for her or the pups considering what they use. :(

I really hope she's not pregnant. Sending **ultrameganotknockedupvibes**. ;)

Laur, did you post in the breeding section on YT? Sometimes there are some breeders who are pretty knowledgeable and may be able to tell.... though YT in general has been a bit more dead than usual.

So looks like vet tomorrow morning or monday at the latest if they can't see her tomorrow. They're closed on sunday.

I wouldn't think she's too far along to spay. At the most she would be 3 or 4 weeks. But if she is, I guess I will be talking a lot to the papillons' breeder.

Blegh. Not happy about all this to say the least.

Oh, by the way she started nesting a bit today. She gathered all sorts of random crap out in the back yard and put it in her bed.

If she is only 4 weeks along...

My guys when they went through a false pregnancy they did it faster. Ie nesting happened about 3-4 weeks in. Real pregnancy they nested later 5 weeks or so. So there is still hope.

Try not to stress until you find out if you need too. I would try to get her spayed anyway if you can. By the time you are sure it might be too late to spay.

Oh and I thought about posting on YT. There seems like a lot of breeders there. I just wasn't sure I wanted to deal with the 'hi I'm new and this is my possibly pregnant dog' post. I'll have to take the time to write out the whole story because I really haven't posted it there.

I totally get ya! I think user Mardelin is a pretty respectable breeder, she generally has a lot of knowledge... there's a few shady ones too of course (I hate the fact that people can sell puppies on there. But what can ya do?)

Just for the record she actually has a tuck up today??? She looks less fat by quite a bit this morning. She's going to go to the vet on monday, that was the soonest they could see her ( they don't work sundays and half days on sat)

Maybe she just had a bad taco.
:lol-sign:

I'm crossing my fingers for a false pregancy!

And sheesh, you are an awesome person. I really don't know many people that would take in a stray and go through all of this trouble for it. Super kudos!
