"You know you live in Lancaster County when the fan fills the air with the odor of a freshly 'seasoned' cornfield and you think to yourself.... 'I love spring'."

:D

Good Lord willing, I will get to milk cows for a living someday. LOL

As long as the fields aren't seasoned with chicken manure! :lol-sign: Even growing up with it, I couldn't stand it.

GOOD call. LOL

That is why I want to milk cows and not raise chickens. I grew up on a farm that had chickens. They tastes teh yummies... But smell like... bad. :D

Awww, I love my chickens:) We debated getting some dairy goats, but yeah, I couldnt do the everyday twice a day milking commitment.

(We also live in the city so not too much room to work with ;) )

You know when you have a dairy farm there are no days off. Ever? No sleeping in even one morning? :D
That's why you have partners. :)

Believe me, I fully understand what it means to be a dairy farmer. I'm still all for it, hopefully, someday. (With the right parlor, you can get through them rather quickly.) But there is something to be said about going to work, 100 yards from your house.

Its not, in any way, about $$$. Who in the heck milks cows to get RICH? LOL

As for the tasty part... I won't go into details as I don't want to start a pissing contest... But that won't be a problem. LOL

No one, lol. Most of the dairy farmers I know are working at other jobs so they can keep up the family farms that have been going for generations :(

Odd little bit of trivia: did you know that trucks that transport from dairies are designated as hazardous cargo carriers and the drivers have to have hazardous certs?

Although...there apparently is a bit more money to be made by raising bison these days, because of the health craze around both the meat and the milk products (not to mention the side income from selling the hide and bones). Also, bigger + hardier = better return on investment.
