I kind of sort of have a major Koolie/Coolie want right now.

Anywhere near you? Lol- there aren't any in the US yet are there?

There are only three places I'd get a koolie from, and I hear they're extremely consistent, which pleases me. I have a feeling the list is easy to recognize.
I think she meant koolies. I'd like to meet some mudis.

Next dog is narrowed down to either a Border Collie (ideally from a specific breeder that I've been eying for years), a Kelpie, or a Koolie.

Though, I can't say I've actually met any Koolies to support my obsession for them, so I'd have to maybe spend some time with a few before making my decision ;)

Yeah that's the thing I really wish I could meet some in person just to 'get a feel' for them.

I just love their structure, size, etc, (I know both vary a bit though) but personality/temperament seems fairly spot on for what I'd like in a dog, I'm just not quite sure though. I like the BC's I've met because of their gentleness, I guess... they have the oomph and the drive and focus but most that I've met anyway, aren't overly pushy with humans or other dogs, not terribly bouncy or 'ram into things' type which I like (Jax would also appreciate). He tends to get annoyed with overly bouncy, mindless energy type dogs who don't really pay attention to where Jax is underfoot.

Overall I still keep leaning towards a Border Terrier and think that's what I'll end up with, but gah, HERDERS... I keep going between Koolies, MAS', English Shepherds and BCs too. There's just so much variation though that scares me. I hear and see of some ES's that I LOVE and then I see some that I don't really. Same with MAS and BCs. And Koolies I just don't have enough knowledge or experience w/ in general.

But most Border Terriers I see (I belong to quite a few FB groups etc and have talked to breeders) seem pretty consistent and like 'my' kind of dog. I'd want to find one that's pretty 'drivey' and loves toys, as I REALLY want a dog who naturally enjoys fetching and frisbee etc. I've taught Jax to 'be' that dog but it's not so engrained in him as some if that makes sense.

I agree with these. I was really into Mudi's...until I met two. They were then crossed off my list.

Koolies are still on it. But I will most likely stick with Kelpies...I've narrowed down the breed "want" to always having GSDs and then either Kelpie/Koolie...or perhaps Dutchie as my "other" sport dog.
Kelpies REALLY intrigue me too but I always though they may be a bit 'too' much dog for me (& Jackson)? But I dunno...

In all seriousness though, Koolies are awesome. I'm completely sold on them and so far everyone I've talked into them seems to be of a similar mindset so either I'm the best sales lady ever or they really are the best.

They are everything I love in herders without the little things I don't like so they fit me perfect.

And they're pretty. And happy.

So obviously, the solution to everyone's issue is a vacation to come visit me and meet Koolies. Especially you Brittany, because Traveler will love LOVE Jackson.

I seriously want to meet your gang! I SWEAR I will one day... lol. After seeing Jackson play with a Coolie, that's when the idea popped into my head. He seriously LOVED him. And he's become kind of a grump when it comes to 'playing' with other dogs lately so it was sooo awesome to see. He tends to click with herders in general.

Approx how big are Didgie and Trav again? I know Didgie is smaller. Do males ever come a bit "smaller"? or is that fairly rare?

Well Payton certainly wanted Zing for his very own.
But Payton likes most bitches so that may not actually be a stunning endorsement.

AND THEY ARE SO NAKED.

This is acceptable. What do they call this? Hairy? Fluffy? It doesn't seem to be "rough" versus "smooth."

Didgie is 32 lb and 20 in
Traveler is 40 lb and 22 in

The breed is so varied it's REALLY hard to say what is usual. Mid 20's to 50 lb tends to be the range but really it will come down to lines and even in that there is a lot of variety.

And this is the problem I am having with the breed. There aren't too many "this is what they should be." Even the club site says there is no standard bc they are letting the breed evolve.

I feel Koolies come down more to individual lines, you have to find a line you like and buy from that breeder. Which makes it that much harder bc most breeder are still in Australia so I'd have first find the breeder from another country, then import(not sure how involved that process is) from said breeder and finally hope I communicated my needs/wants correctly to them, bc chances of me having met one of their dogs is pretty slim.

Clearly you just need to save me all this trouble and just let me borrow Traveler.

Thanks!

Didgie is honestly probably my fav size but I figured it likely wouldn't happen with a male (which is what I want).

I like the size of MAS' a lot but... the floof. lol. I think I prefer either smooth-coated or like the dog I posted in the OP... a bit more fluffy, but not too much, don't know if koolies have a 'name' to that or not, but yeah I like it. :p

I think Zip Tie is around that weight! But I can't remember exactly what size he is.

Ned's about 35 pounds as well. Not sure how tall (especially since I haven't seen him for months), but I would guess he was about 19.5-20" when I left.
