Awww, River would give you face kisses for that sort of admiration.

You need to foster a crestie. They seriously grow on non-naked dog people. ;)

My dogs are short haired, but I can see why some of the longer coated dogs aren't necessarily that well insulated. I think those people that mock those who use coats on their dogs are just so ignorant. They assume that putting a coat on a dog means necessarily, that you're not treating your dog like a dog. That's absurd. My Chihuahuas and every dog I've had goes on long, arduous hikes in the mountains here with me. They do have to be watched as far as bigger animals or birds of prey, but they don't have to be carried around in a purse. But that has nothing to do with their needing a little extra warmth at times. Even in my house in the morning, it's so chilly that poor Jose` often shivers. He's not as good a burrower as Chuli, who can get under the blankets on the couch. When we're sleeping, they're both under the covers in my bed. But in the a.m.....poor Boo boo...he shivers violently. So, I put a sweater on him until it warms up or unless he goes under the propane stove if it's on. That really heats him up. lol.

These pictures are kind of dark so it's hard to see, but Lyric had a snood....a fleece hoodie thing that went over his head and ears and came down over his neck...like a tube sort of. Poor thing. He out grew this coat so it wasn't that protective, but we kept moving...lots of running so he didn't get cold. Dobermans get cold and the cropped ears have very little hair inside, so they can get frost bite easily. Dogs feet pads don't get frost bite, so booties really aren't necessary other than the fact they keep the ice balls from sticking and bothering them. My dogs don't seem to have that problem. The snow here is usually very dry and doesn't stick or make balls and they don't have much hair between their toes. Well, Jose` kind of has a little.

"Where did my ears go?"

Chulita in her reversable coat with pockets. It's very cozy for these north Idaho winters. Jose` has the same coat.

Bonnie in her Seattle Super Sonics coat. LOL. She was my Lab....didn't need a coat...kept very warm, but she tolerated my son's nonsense and let him put his coat on her. This was years ago in our big house. Wow, my son's room was a disaster area!

Thats annoying.
I never thought I was a person to dress a dog up other than a winter coat except now that I have Quinn... I wanna dress her up. I want to get her a christmas t-shirt! I'm cnverted.

I don't think dressing up your dogs + treating them like a person. Thats ridiculous.

Orson and Phoebe BOTH have coats...........and there have been times when I put Orson's on him INSIDE the house, LOL If it falls below 68 in the house (we do have drafts) he'll lay and shiver. Kevin calls him our 75lb chihuahua, hehe

They really do shiver don't they Coop. I remember poor Lyric sometimes before I caught it and put something on him, he'd be standing there with his teeth chattering.

Mrose...a Xmas t-shirt would be fun. Hey, if you've got a dog that is stylish, why not? LOL. I go a little bit beyond the practical and must confess....I got Chulita a little camoflage shirt. It's not warm. It's like t-shirt material...maybe good for a spring day that's not very warm. She's worn it a few times recently on our woodsy hikes... in the fall weather, where it's not that cold but a wee bit chilly. She looks so cute in it, I can't stand it. But she still has to mind her p's and q's and behave herself. And she has to figure out how to negotiate streams and trees that are down. I don't help unless she's really in a pickle. But all in all, these little twirps are perfectly capable to jump, slither under things, climb over stumps and get over little streams as long as they don't have to step in the water. LOL.

lol i wonder what they'd think of my pit bulls in their coats. luce is such a pansy that she wears a fleece in the house all winter.

steve's hairy, but i don't think he's very well insulated. he also has very little body fat. he is so *busy* that he keeps himself pretty warm, but i know if we were just standing around, he'd get cold.

Daisy, the lab, wears a coat in cold weather. She doesn't really dislike cold weather, but she does seem to enjoy warm weather much more. It might be 80 degrees outside and she'll lay in the yard in the sun.

Benji is the opposite. He's a little dog with longer hair, and the hair seems to keep him very well insulated. Benji THRIVES in cold weather. Last winter, in that horrible snow storm where we got three feet of snow, Benji was practically in heaven out there, except for the fact that the snow sticks in the fur on his legs and clumps up. We almost never put a coat on Benji unless its three degrees outside or something. In the summer we keep him nekkid or he's just way too hot.

I dont dress blaze, as he has enough fur, Ive never seen him shiver a day in his life. Solo my..foster on the other hand has a set of PJ's a sweate and a jacket lol. he is tiny and gets cold very easy.
Also, we MUST MUST MUST get pictures of all of these jacketed dogs.
I need to have SOME sort of evidence to send in that they're being abused obviously.:rofl1:

I just bought Riley a winter coat because he's short-haired and doesn't seem to be growing any kind of undercoat. He gets cold in the house, too, and really likes snuggling under a blanket.
The boys, Mick and Murph, have pretty heavy double coats - I've seen Murphy sleeping on his back in 20 degree weather; he'd rather stay out than come in the house and get too hot.

Riley's new coat

I don't get people that go all attack mode over stuff like that.

Romeo has a coat for the winter, ya.

but he also has a BUNCH of other clothes lol totally useless, cute, fun clothing. He doesn't mind wearing them, I think they are cute, so whats the harm?!

as long as the dog is comfortable (they aren't heating up or stopping the dog from moving properly) then I honestly fail to see what people have such a problem with

I have to admit I bought each dog a halloween costume and a shirt today :rofl1:

Logan tolerates them, but isn't too thrilled.

Gavroche, on the other hand, gets SO EXCITED by anything he can wear, and he rocks anything I put on him too. Even bandannas, Gavroche looks so awesome while Logan just looks dorky if I put a bandanna on him lol. I'll have to get pictures of the costumes tomorrow.

@Saeleofu- Yeah sounds like Logan takes after Loki. Loki has a cowboy hat and bandana as well as some cute red fleece chaps that I made for him for halloween last year. He was not impressed, to say the least....he's known 'round these parts as cowboy slim...lol

I actually have waterproof barn coats that I put on my rough collies when the weather gets nasty. It rains a lot here in Washington and unlike a lot of the sane collie breeders who would keep their dogs kenneled when it's pouring out I let mine run in the fields all day until they get absolutely good and soaked and filthy, just the way they like it. The coats save me some of the daily grooming work. They keep the roughs somewhat dry and free of mud, mats, etc.
The smooth coated collies are so much easier to maintain in this respect. I just give em a quick rinse and blow dry and they're done. No coat required :)

Logan just says his handsomeness doesn't rely on clothing ;) When we were picking out costumes at Petsmart there was some random kid "helping" me. I'd put a costume on him, the kid would say "AWWWW that's cute!" I'd take it off and the kid would say ""AWWWW he's cute!" Put another one on and the kid would say ""AWWWW that's cute!" That continued until I put the spider on. At that point the kid said, "He scares me" and left :rofl1:

I have no desire to have a dog that needs to wear clothes to keep them warm but I have nothing against dogs needing to wear clothes for the weather. In fact, I love it when people have cute jackets on their dogs that need them. Why not add some style to it?

But if I had to buy my doga coat I'd probably purchase one of those ones that look like a horse blanket.

That's the kind Gavroche has now. But I really really want the Ruffwear one because it covers the belly, too, and Gavroche has NO hair on his chest/belly. That's where he needs the coat the most!

I have horse blankets with tummy covers. I owned a horse that rubbed out her stomach hair and made herself bleed. That was the only way to get her to stop rubbing.

I bought Auggie a coat last year, because we had several weeks where the wind was INSANE. It was strong, cold, biting... it was awful. So I bought a little coat to put on him to help break the wind. He doesn't seem to be cold in normal cold air, but when the wind gets awful like that, it does bother him. Unfortunately, I don't think it really helped him that much. I would have had to wrap him up like a papoose to have really helped I think. =P But hopefully it at least took SOME of the edge off.

I don't really know why people get in such a tizzy about what other people do with their dogs. If it's not harming the dog in any way, who cares? Ugh.

Me neither Fran..........but I don't get how people go 'all attack mode' over most things though. It's like you think THAT is going to change anyone's mind about anything? Pffffffffffft, ok.

Feed a food I think is crap? I'll verbally berate you, that will make it all better :)

Bought your dog from a BYB or pet store? Yep, you need to be publicly attacked, that'll fix everything right up and magically change your opinion for the next time.

Breed your BYB, or breed when they are too young? OH YA........you definitely need to be beaten with words on the internet..........that will make you change your evil ways ;)

Good information, knowledge, and examples = changing minds THAT CAN BE CHANGED. Not all can be changed because some know better and make the bad choice in spite of it.

Berating and attacking = defensiveness and indignation
