I finally thought of the breed that might fit me! After months of harassing dog owners and trainers and competitors for info, I came across a dog that:

Is quiet, not a barker
No feathering
Has an off switch in the house reliably/as a breed trait
Is healthy and long-lived
Can be found doing sports
Dog friendly/not known to have DA issues
Catlike, but with more sociability than some of the others I was looking at with this quality (Shar Pei, Chows)
Good in apartments and easy to rent with, not on any banned lists etc.

Anyone wanna guess?

Oh and stay tuned, discussions are happening :D

Sounds like my greyhounds, but since "can be found doing sports" is not typical, I vote for their smaller cousins the whippets. lol

LOL I was thinking greyhound, too, except for the "doing sports" part. So, yeah, I'll say Whippet, too.

Never met a whippet, but if anything like a greyhound, should be a very nice dog. Best of luck :)

Yay whippety beasts! Schen was almost a whippet. I had a hard time choosing between a whippet (which I know I love as I have had whippets before) and the smaller but similar to a whippet crestie.

LOL It was a race. I found the right crestie puppy first. Please post lots of puppy pictures. Whippets are the most ridiculous puppies :D <3

Thanks guys! Oh and one of the breeders I contacted has a litter being born next week. This could be happening much sooner than anticipated :yikes: I feel good about it, though. We'll see whether the litter produces what I'm looking for.

I didn't know what a Whippit dog was, so I looked it up. Sounds like a great choice. Has a lot of good qualities. The article said they were a poor man's greyhound.:) I wish everyone would put in the effort you did to find the right dog for them. At first I thought you were talking about my George. He is an English Shepherd and very athletic. He has to run down every time I turn him out.

I'm drowning in puppy possibility. There's another litter at a different breeder's in January, and I really like what it produced last time (it's a repeat, I checked out the previous litter). I put my contacts in with them tonight. So now I'm just hanging out and waiting on a bunch of whippet-lets to be born. A quiet, cuddly, confident, stable, other-dog-loving fawn and white with a typey head, toy drive, and the potential for rally/obedience, nosework, agility, and maybe flyball (if I go crazy) isn't TOO much to ask for right? :rofl1:
