I just called the animal shelter to tell them that I am bringing Nichole back today (foster dog)
I just cannot keep her here now knowing that she has NOT been wormed, vet check, or anything else.
She was doing lots of coughing last night, and I am scared she has kennel cough.
I feel horrible taking her back to the shelter :(
I am not fostering any more through these people... this is just crazy.

I told them if they get Nichole to a vet and get her vet checked that I would take her back.

They should have done that prior toy you having her. By them not vetting her first they are putting your dogs in jeopardy. Not a risk I would take either.

I agree. Don't feel too bad. I know you want to do what's best for the dog, but it wasn't fair for the rescue to give you a dog without first doing basic medical care when you have other animals at home. Even if you didn't, it wouldn't be fair. That is their responsibility

They should have let you know she wasn't vet checked, I agree. But my mind is doing the "hmm?" thing here, because if she was coughing, and she had kennel cough and she's already been with your other dogs, chances are they've already been exposed to it, correct?

YOu do what you have to do but it would break my heart too. YOu just can't take the chance of getting one of those respitory infections like Barb did that spread through out her forever dogs. Just so sad. (((((HUGS)))))) That's really hard.

Geeze that comment would burn me up! I'm sure you'll find someone else to foster for that will treat you much better!

what kind of place are they running?!

honestly at the VERY least new dogs should be checked within the first week of arriving at a shelter and ALWAYS before going into a forster situation...WTF?

i dont know the rules in Kentucky but in ct theres actually laws about vet checking dogs within a certain time of arriving at a shelter and before they can be fostered/adopted out...
might be worth checking with your dept of agriculture...definatly sounds like some half arsed efforts there...

Sounds like the shelter I used to work at *rolls eyes*

Unfortunately, the really only way to improve places like that is to completely get rid of all the people at teh top and start new.

I don't know why it is that the scummiest of all people seem to be attracted to having control over animal shelters. *sigh* That certainly is a trend.

Sounds like a really poorly run place, to make an understatement. I don't think you should feel badly at all. I would not put my dogs in jepardy either.
