I dont know what to do

I havent Clipped keely's coat since well before Christmas... And its getting pretty long and I just dont know if I want to cut it or not. I do, because right now it looks messy. But on the other hand I kinda wanted to Let her grow out into a show coat. But the long hair is just so inconvienant.

And yes, this is a Life threatening Decision:rofl1:

Or at least I treat it like one.

So, what do you guys think? Longer haired yorkie or short haired yorkiee?

Short-furred Yorkie (Minus the square face, The groomer that I used to take her to didnt know what she was doing.. I dont even think she owned Thinning shears.)

Longer hair (Please excuse her grossness) its past bath day, and Im waiting to make a decision before bathing her)
(Not sure why she looks so Stocky in this picture :S, And her head is not that big.. LOL.. Her tail is tucked because she hates the camera, as you will also see in one of the following pictures with her ears back.. lol)

well.. I understan how hard it is to make a decsion when it comes to grooming ect ect.. I have been there and it is NOT fun at all. Enough of that. But I like her hair longer. Could you take her to a groomer who know what they are doing and just get them to keep it long, but shape it up and trim it a little. Then at least you can keep it longer and neater??

Yeah I think with some thinning shears you could even her out a bit and make it look quite a bit neater without taking off much length.

If you want to keep it long, go for it. It's alot of upkeep but totally worth it. I think you should just clean it up a bit. Regular trimming keeps the hair healthy and promotes growth too not to mention keeps her feeling good.

Yea, I groom her myself anyways, so I might just take my thinning shears and clean her up a bit..

And Maybe trim up her feet a bit too and do a Sanitary cut.

At this length I don't think it would be that much work...you could probably brush her 3x a week and be fine right now. I'd keep letting it grow until you think you can't manage/she's getting knots and then decide. I'd LOVE to see her with a full coat!

Just a trim. A Yorkie's coat is high maintenance, but small. Keep her combed out and see how you like it.

^^^ That's what I do with Riley, our Westie. Sanitary clip and a little paw trimming is all the hair-cutting he ever gets.

Other than that I strip out dead hairs periodically to prevent any mats and encourage healthy coat growth, but I never yank it all out so that his coat is in any way short. I guess I don't understand the point of getting a long-haired dog, only to always keep its long and beautiful natural coat whacked-off short. Why not just get a medium-haired or short-haired dog in the first place?

(Showing excepted, for those breeds that require some kind of "show cut" ... that's show rules, but I still think most of those dogs look better in full coat. Yorkies are shown in full coat though.)

The long hair is a bit of maintenance but not as much as most people would think. It's just a matter of doing small regular upkeep times that really aren't much time, and keeping up with those so that it never gets to any kind of royal mess that would then be a big time-consuming job to fix.

Keely does look cute either way, but to really bring out her natural good looks I vote for long .. with just a little trimming here and there for sanitary reasons and to keep her coat from dragging on the ground too much.

(Personally, I wouldn't worry about it looking "messy" while it grows out. It's just like a human growing out a haircut from short to long ... yeah, it goes through that funky stage, but waiting is so worth it in the end -- rather than succumbing to the urge to whack it all off again.)

I like the short, too. Also, if the cut you give her doesn't turn out like you want exactly, it *will* grow back and you can try again.

See, I have a new dillema now. I took her in the woods today for the first time this spring as the snow is almost gone.... And im putting her through Hell and back to get all the twigs and burrs out of her fur... ohmy.. why can't i have a dainty little dog that doesnt want to get her paws dirty

LOL, TGR: I get where your coming from with the coats. But I wanted a yorkie for their personalities.. They are a good breed for me, even if they do have a coat that i sometimes wish i didnt have to deal with..

I dont mind cutting her down, ive done it enough now to know what i like when i do cut her. but i dunno.. Im still debating.
