Spin off from the Petfinder want thread.

How often are you on there? Are you actually looking for dogs? If not, do you find it hard to resist? If so do you apply for every dog you like?

I try not to get on very often because I don't need any more dogs in my life right now. And I'm always looking at ACDs and being sad I can't help them. Occasionally I will venture to the WPG breeds, but none are legit or they don't want them to be gundogs, so meh, nothing ever becomes of it.

I'm not looking for another dog. I don't find it hard to resist because of lack of time.

Rarely. But I'm on a few different Facebook groups that rehome dogs (show dogs, or ACDs) and I look at some of the dogs that are posted sometimes. I can't have another dog right now so it's not that hard to resist (although I may have gotten a Saluki if I could have :p).

Awesome, thanks for making new threads!! :)

How often are you on there?
About 3 times a month, I'd say?

Are you actually looking for dogs?
Nope.

If not, do you find it hard to resist?
I want to say yes, but the honest answer is no, not really. When I'm on Petfinder I'm not really invested in the dog itself or finding one, plus I am (was) set on the kind of dog I want and the type of breeder it would come from. It'd take a lot for a specific dog to appeal to me over the internet, however descriptive the bio is. I'll pine and whine and share the link, but in the end I don't actually have a real desire to apply for the dog.

Cats, on the other hand, are harder for me to resist. It's just SO EASY adding in a cat to the household :p

I'd say like once a week or once every 2 weeks I get a bug up my butt to go look. No particular reason. I'm not really in the market for another dog especially since my mom just got her cockapoo pup and I live there, so now with 2 dogs in the house, another isn't feasible right now anyway. Not to mention, I'm almost certain my next dog will come from a breeder.

I guess I just like to look and browse just in case I come across a dream dog or something.

Oh... as usual I only answered part of the questions. :p

I'm not seriously looking. And I don't find it hard to resist, because I really can't have another dog right now.

I would say in the last month or 2, I go on a couple times a week. Before that, I never went on there. I was helping my sister look for a dog so that's kind of what made me start looking on there... and now I like to look for dogs that would appeal to me :p I'm definitely not in the market for another dog right now, and I usually don't find them too tempting HOWEVER there is one dog who I've been coming back to for the last few weeks who I really, really wish I could take.

Mostly Petfinder just makes me really, really want to buy a house RIGHT NOW.

I don't do Petfinder very often anymore but I'm on a sheltie classifieds list about once a week. I'm not actually looking - I mean, I am ready to add another dog but it will not be something I find in the classifieds, so why I look there, I just don't know. I do it under the excuse of looking for my sister. I don't apply or inquire about anything because I don't actually find anything I want pretty much ever. Only once did I find a dog I really, really wanted, and I just couldn't since I already know about the next one, so...

At lease twice a week

Are you actually looking for dogs?

No, not really, but, I wish I was! I'll admit- Sometimes I pretend I actually am looking fur a dog.:rofl1:

If not, do you find it hard to resist?
Due to still living with my parents-No. I know it won't be able to happen. So, I don't even bother getting that far.

However, if I lived on my own?
It would be much different. I probably try to get a every dog on petfinder that appeals to me.

I look once every few weeks, probably. I can't have another dog right now so it's never serious, just browsing. My next dog is going to be from a breeder anyway. I still look though... couldn't tell you why.

I surf Petfinder for ACD's and BC's in my area probably 3-4 times a month. I just like looking at all the dogs and wishfully thinking about what it would be like to get him/her. I am not looking for another dog for at least the next 3-4 years, so none of my dog stalking is serious (although it's a serious problem).

Other than looking at herders needing homes, I am probably on Petfinder every day or every other day looking at new dogs that come into my rescue I volunteer for. I am not able to be there every day (usually only 2-3 times a week), but I like to read up on the dogs we get in between my visits so I know what they are like and can jump right in to helping potential adopters. They just put up a sheltie for adoption that I need to go meet RIGHT NOW (just for funsies). Volunteering is probably more dangerous than surfing Petfinder. I know the owners of the rescue really well, so all I would have to do to adopt a dog would be to say I want it, have it meet Fable, fill out paperwork, and take it home.

Often once or twice a week... sometimes less, but that means I'm stalking some GSD rescues instead.

I know I won't be able to adopt a dog at this time in my life, but I can't stop almost "pretending" to look for the "perfect dog". I'm pretty sure this is borderline obsession (or maybe it is).

And sometimes, I DO find the "perfect dog"... but I still can't adopt. Reason being though, I don't live in a pet-friendly apartment at school, and I'm sure rescues wouldn't like this apartment lifestyle for one of their dogs, even if it were pet-friendly.

Waiting until I move out... and then I'd literally have waited almost 10 years to adopt the GSD I've always wanted. :hail:

Like daily. :p Typically I check ACDs, BCs, and Aussies in the area as well as dogs at the city impound (I find a lot get labelled weird)

I never looked at it until about July/August when I decided I wanted a rescue and started keeping an eye out. I was checking daily because the city shelters go through dogs very fast around here. If I saw a dog I needed to go in the day it was posted. Now it's kind of habit... There's some cool dogs.

I am not in the market for another dog since I just got one off of petfinder. :p Maybe in a couple years.

Not very often at all. Usually it's because someone posts a dog and I check out their bio and then look around after.

I think I have finalized what and where I want next dog to from....it's still a few years away so I feel like contacting the breeder now would be sorta weird. So things can still change in between now and then, but hopefully not. HaHa.

It's not terribly hard for me to not get another dog, I just remind myself of where I am now and what adding a not planned dog will do to my plans and poof I'm cured of dog want. :p I will squee over dogs for adoption/sale on FB but that's all it ever is... A squee.

Probably once monthly. I check out my regular BC rescues to go through much more frequently. I'm not really tempted, and my parents would never allow it. Hypothetical dogs are much more tempting than real ones right now.

Used to be on daily, went past year barely on at all....

As for another dog, I'd like one eventually, but for me right now it's the last thing I need, I have a ton of unknowns in my life... Work, where I'll be living, school and so on... Far to many to bring another in

Also, once I knew I had a house lined up I looked daily to see what shelters tended to get in dogs I liked the look of and which ones were either not adopting dogs out or just never update their petfinder dogs. Some of the dogs in the south texas area had been listed since before I got Mia (Mia was almost a rescue). So I figure they just must not be updating and I just wanted to skip those rescues and dogs.

After watching a month or two you can easily see which rescues are actually moving and adopting out dogs.

How often are you on there? Are you actually looking for dogs? If not, do you find it hard to resist? If so do you apply for every dog you like?

I actually very rarely get on petfinder anymore. Whenever they did their webpage change (although it has probably been the new format for, like, over a year or two or whatever), my computers began to hate it. Maybe because I use Chrome? I'm really not sure, but all I know is that every two pages or so the entire site says, "Oops, I'm sorry, there is no criteria that fits your search" because all of my search criteria has been erased. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to actually LOOK at dogs and not be able to see more than the first page or two.

The last time I got on petfinder I actually WAS looking for a dog - not for myself, but for my Aunt. I used to browse a couple times a week, and it was just that - browsing. On a rare occasion there may have been a dog that I saw that I seriously thought about fostering, but that was about it.

I don't find it hard to resit. Saying no to a dog I have never met before and have no idea what it is actually like in person actually isn't that difficult for me. My weakness is when an animal is thrown in my lap and I'm told, "It has nowhere to go. Will you take it?" Bwhahaha And even then, if I don't "click"...I'll say no. (Honest. I haven't taken home quite a few dogs in the past few months because of that, even though I had every opportunity.)

If I *were* looking for a new dog, I'd probably search in a near-to-far pattern. Go and visit dogs at shelters before actually applying for anything in a rescue that was a bit of a drive. I have no issue getting in touch with people and saying, "Look, this is what I'm looking for, here is my information, does it even sound like you'd do business with me/you get in dogs that fit my criteria?" And then when I'm told, "Yes, I think this could work!" I'll go forward, if I'm ignored or told, "Oh, God, you rent/have a cat/are military/want children/our dogs are mostly shy, older dogs" I just move on with my life.

I check Petfinder nearly weekly, not because I'm looking for another dog, but because I have a collection of 1000+ images of "cool looking mixed breed dogs" saved on my computer and I'm always adding to it xD
