Have any of you seen this article? Would you or do you spend more money on your dog food than human food?

Pet owners may tighten belts before leashes

Survey results released last month at the North American Veterinary Conference showed that pet owners are more likely to cut back on other monthly expenses before skimping on care or supplies for their pets...

Yes I spend more money on my dog food than my own. I chose to have the dogs, it's my responsibility to see that they get the best I can provide them. There's not a massive difference but it is noticeable. I spend (or spent) about $45 a month and some on dog food and I'll make $20 of groceries stretch for three weeks.

I don't spend anywhere near as much on pet food as on human food. We're currently budgeted for almost $500 on human food a month (good food is very important to us--if you don't have your health, what do you have?) and our pet food we're budgeted at about $100 a month. We feed a high quality kibble and supplement with raw, but we also spend 2 hours a week volunteering at a food co-op so we can get such a deep discount on our pet food.

But since the dogs don't really have anything to do with the family circumstances, they aren't out blowing money on frivolous stuff or running up credit card debt after all, they shouldn't have to suffer if there needs to be cut-backs. It's really not fair.

I'm also only one person and if I'm spending the same out to feed myself as I'm spending to feed two dogs...then I'd really need to look at what all I was eating. :)

I eat fairly healthy but I don't cook at all. So most of my food consist of raw fruit, veggies, and PB&J. With Diek Pepsi on the side of course =). If I had to feed all the dogs on my own, they live with my parents, I'm sure the food bill of 4 dogs would be much higher then mine.

Honestly I did the math on what we normally spend on OUR food per month then divided by 7 (the amount of people eating) Then I did the math on what I spend for kibble/home cooked (including homemade treats) and divided by 2............we spend just slightly more on our own food. It's only a difference of about 25.00 more per person.

This of course does NOT include eating out ;)

:yikes::yikes: How the hell do you make 20 bucks of food stretch for 3 weeks?? I need to rethink my spending on food...

I spend about $35 on dog food per month, not including treats. Reggin is healthy and happy with his food... so all is good.

On human food... about $400 for 2 people. Not including eating out.

I spend way more on my dogs than I do myself. They eat raw and get the best treats and supplements. I eat Ramen.

Eggs, yogurt, peanut butter and jelly, oatmeal, popcorn and I can usually catch some sort of meal sale and get some hamburger. Two pounds is *at least* four meals for me. I don't eat a whole lot anyway. Coffee in the morning and then whatever I feel like fixing.
