How many times a day do you feed your dog?

I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who feeds their dog once a day. I feed them the right amount, but just one time per day usually around dinner time. I would feed them half the amount but twice, but I think that one large meal is better than two small ones. Is it a bad thing that I do this? Should I be feeding multiple times a day?

I feed two times a day. Late morning around 10, and early evening around 6.
But times vary due to schedules.

I feel more comfortable feeding twice, because I worry about bloat when feeding one large meal. Especially with my bigger dogs.:)

I feed twice because I'm worried about bloat too. Although Boris is a picky eater and really ends up with one big meal a day anyway, as he often won't touch the morning one...

I feed twice a day, but the morning kibble is about a 1/2 cup, and really I only put it in there to make me feel she has it available - she never touches
it until well into the evening if I'm at work, or possibly afternoon if I'm home and she's gotten a walk.

I feed 3 or 4 times a day, because I have a pup, and that is what I have always read. I feed 1 cup of kibble and 2-3 oz of chicken broth.

Why would you think that one large meal is better than two? Eating smaller meals more often throughout the day enables bodies to better utilize the nutrition they are receiving. This goes for both dogs and humans.

My dogs get breakfast and supper, and sometimes they'll get a brunch stuck in there, as well. And treats throughout the day, of course.

I really don't think you can compare a dog's system to a human Angel.

Zeus is not a very good eater, so he free-feeds. He tends to just nibble a bite here and there.

Dogs and humans have different digestive systems that you can't really compare.

In a natural setting, a dog would eat a lot of food all in one meal and then not really look for food again until he gets hungry. The natural cycle would be about 28 hours if I remember correctly.

It's always best to feed a dog according to its individual needs though. Some can't go for long with an empty stomach and start throwing up bile, so more frequent meals are better. Others simply aren't interested in eating more often than once a day.

Stoli is like this also.....Do you think Is it something we have done, or are some dogs just like that?
