Tux~black lab/coonhound mix...adopted out two weeks into fostering

Bentley~husky/GSD mix...adopted about a month into fostering him. He was abused and needed some work before he was ok to be adopted out. Went to a great farm home!

Middie~Pittie...still here being fostered. This girl prolapsed her vagina a week ago tomorrow. She also has terrible seperation anxiety and has started to ruin her teeth trying to get out of the kennel at the shelter. She will be available for adoption soon...i think :p but she fits in really well here so we shall see!

Levi - he was either dumped off or had wandered off into the veterinary parking lot. We snagged him and I took him home to avoid him heading to the shelter. Contacted the shelters, posted ads....nothing. We had him for about a month or so and then a foster home opened up at a local Basset rescue so they took him. He never made it to his foster home, as the family transporting him fell in love the minute they saw him and adopted him on the spot. :D

Bella - a Pug/Boston puppymill rescue. She was potentially bred and was being sold for dirt cheap. I contacted a Pug rescue and after they said they'd be able to take her in I snagged her. She was extremely skittish, had no house manners, reeked of poop (even after a bath), and had no idea how to walk on a leash. We had her for maybe a week while we were arranging transport and in that time she didn't really open up to us, but she fell in love with Chloe. The rescue put her into foster care, determined she wasn't pregnant, and got her used to daily life. She blossomed into a wonderful girl and was adopted a few months later.

Dexter - he was thrown out of a moving truck in the vet's parking lot with mange and a horrible gash on his shoulder. The clinic took him in, got him patched up and nuetered, and then placed him up for adoption. He stayed our at our house for a few days to give him a break from the kennel and he was a DOLL. I would have kept him, but Blackie wasn't fond of him. Chloe adored him though.

I also took in a ferret kit, three hamsters, two cats, and three Guinea pigs. The kit was going to be taken to the shelter after the child she was bought for became terrified of her. One hamster was going to be taken to the shelter, the other two were going to be drowned. One cat, Roo, was going to be shot, and the other cat, Medea, was brought in to the vet's to be put to sleep after her owner adopted another cat and Medea decided she hated the new addition. The vet refused as Medea was a perfectly healthy 2 year old cat and I took her in as a foster. She just went to her new home the beginning of May. One Guinea pig, Lucy, was going to become roadkill or a dog toy and the two others, Dot and Louie, were adopted by me from a rescue.

I don't know if Sam is considered a rescue (supposedly an "accidental litter") but he has a burn scar on his arm and he was petrified of so many things when we got him such as water, women, leashes, closets, basements, brooms and tonnes of other things.

But since joining Chaz I've adopted 1 cat (stray), 1 fish (unwanted), 3 rats (2 in hoarding situation, 1 unwanted), 4 hamsters (unwanted), and 2 gerbils (accidental litter).

Chloe is a Dachshund/Chihuahua, and she's 5-6 years old.
She came from Lake Martin Humane Society Animal Shelter in Alexander City, Alabama.

I love her so much! :)

We rescued our beautiful chocolate toy poodle Fifi who was born blind and suffers seizures - she needed our love and care the most. :)

And oh my goodness do we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her! She's soooooo fun and playful despite being blind!

Millie, my oldest, is a rescue. She was found in a closet with her brothers and sisters, being starved. Mom was kept out back. Three of her siblings were already dead. I had to nurse her back to health. We didn't think she was going to make it. I took her to work with me for about 2 months straight. She's 7 now, very skiddish and doesn't trust anyone but me. She has separation anxiety, so I take her, along with my other two, to my mother's house every day. She has two dogs, too, and is retired. Millie's living the good life and I am so glad I'm the one she ended up with. She's still my baby. I also got her about 2 months after my dog Tandy died. I was recently interviewed by the Associated Press about losing a pet. I'm not sure, but I don't think I can post the links. It was all over the internet for a few weeks, on various news outlets.
Here's Millie:

Cookie is one of three puppies dumped at my Dad's a couple of weeks ago. We decided to keep her, and I took the other two to a friend's rescue. Both of Cookie's siblings have been adopted and I'm so happy that none of them ended up at the pound.

Here's my sweet Cookie:

Rufus is my first dog, he was abandoned twice before I found him. I agreed to watch him for a few days after a phone call from a friend. Then while driving home, site unseen, I just knew I was going to keep him. Supposedly he's a mix of Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Australian Shepherd, and Chow. I don't know, but he's really smart and very friendly.

I couldn't figure out how to upload a pic, but I'll put one up soon. You can check out a pic of us on my website Inspirational Quotes that's the two of us.

Technically, all of mine have been "rescues" of some sort.

Two of the parakeets (Oscar & Emmy) were from a woman who couldn't take care of them anymore, and was trying to find them a new home. The other one (Grammy) was from a co-worker - her other bird had recently died, and Grammy was extremely lonely. She wasn't in a position to get another bird, so she asked if I wanted to take her.

Sassy was from the animal rescue that I volunteer with. She was supposed to stay with me for a couple days until we could get her into the adoption center at PetSmart. After about 24 hours, I knew she wasn't leaving.

Jack and Missy were also from the same animal rescue - they had been with the group a long time, with no real interest or potential adopters, so I thought I'd try giving them a home. They're both wonderful dogs, so go figure.

Jesse the mix-a-chon. I think he has some JRT in him but it is anyone's guess since, and I quote the rescue lady, "the red-neck had no idea what had mated with his bichon"

No matter. He is my little ray of sunshine and I shall call his breed "Fluffernutter"

I was going out side one day (April 25th 2010 to be exact :p)and there was a (6 month-ish old) Lacey on my porch....

Asked around, no one knew her. Looked in lost/found classified and no listings for her. I am pretty sure she was dumped, and of course all strays know where to go! Her sides were caved in like she hadn't ate for a few days. She had never been inside a house, I assume... she WOULD NOT walk in the house, I had to pick her up to bring her in. I kept her confined to one room for the first few days because I wasn't sure if she would be ok with my cats and whe I took her outside I had to carry her. When I put her on the floor and tried coaxing her she would tremble and lay there. And right after I got her I was about to step over her since she was in my way.... and she flinched (understatment) and closed her eyes SO tight while trembling... she thought I was going to kick her!!!

I think someone beat her, she no longer does any of this except she is petrified when I trim her nails. She will just tremble and shake the whole time I do nails, I tried treats to snap her out of it, but she will not eat when I am clipping nails so I just go slow... we are working on that. She is a sensitive/timid dog. She noticed her reflection in the TV a few weeks ago (it was off) and she was growling/trembling at it and looking away.... she loves other dogs so I dunno what was up with that. AND if she sees/hears anything unusual while we are in the yard (even car headlights reflecting on our car, or a peice of trash that blew in our yard) she will tremble and head straight to the door - wants back inside.

Wish I knew her past... and if any moron abused her.

She is the most awesome dog ever! A while ago I forgot to take the cats food back up before bed (they had some dry left, I do not free feed) and Lacey did NOT even eat it! Because she KNEW that she was not allowed to eat the cat's food. It was right there, a few feet from my bed (Lacey sleeps on the bed)... on the floor in a bowl... she could have just walked over and ate it. But she knew that she isn't allowed, even though cat food is the best thing ever to her. That was when I knew I have the best dog in the whole world lol.

(All of my cats were rescues/feral. The only animals I have ever purchased were fish lol)

One rescue dog (rat terrier) - Bailey. And he gets along great with the other three (all terriers). We found him in the middle of a major thorough fair in Alabama.
