How many dogs are you legally allowed to have where you live? Do you obey this? Are there laws like kennel laws where you are allowed to have more? What about where you live if you live in a complex or an apartment?

Where I live its the greater van area. We are allowed two legally and you can apply for a kennel liciense if you want more but you have to obey the rules for one. Anyways, I respect it. I only have one dog and don't have an interest in owning more than two.

I rent a house. My landlord is fine with another if I inform him.

3 dog limit here. My parents have 5, so some don't follow the rules. Unless they are causing issues and someone complains, usually nothing is done.

I personally don't want over 3, and when my little old man does pass on [which hopefully isn't any time soon :(]...I will not be getting another. I'm pretty content with 1-2ish. I own my home, so couldn't answer on renting or such. I do know we have some BSL restrictions, but I know little to nothing on the kennel laws outside that.

I think my city is 3, but my apartment complex is 2, and right now that's all that really matters :p

Wow. I didn't realize there were such low ordinances.

It's 10 over the age of 6 months here. You can apply for a license to go above that.

ETA: commercial kennels are exempt from the limit completely. And I can have 10... NO WAY I want anywhere NEAR that though.

Four.
Technically the neighbourhood is supposed to limit two but we don't actually have a neighbourhood association that enforces the rules that were written 60 years ago. So it defaults to the city which is four.

I dunno if you can apply for a license for more or not. Never looked into it.

Here it's four licensed pets, so any combination of cats and dogs that equals four. That said we have three dogs and two cats, since the cats don't leave the house they don't have city tags.

Two, either two dogs or two cats or one dog and one cat.

But, it's pretty unenforced luckily since we are over. But I think it's a pretty sucky rule

Question: for the people who have the low limits. Is that per property or per owner? Here it's 10 but that's per property.

I think people have to own at least three dogs to live where we do LOL

Everybody here has more then two. My neighbor is that crazy cat lady who has 15 feral cats she feeds everyday.

No limit. You can license them individually, or if you have over a certain number (10, I think?), you can apply for a kennel license, which then saves you money. But then you need to abide by the rules for kennels, including allowing inspections and such. The people (well, person) I know with more just licenses all her dogs individually to avoid the other regulations.

My condo association only allows two pets total, and I abide by it. No desire to own another pet right now anyway! I could see looking for a third when Meg is 100% retired and Gusto is at the level Meg is at now - but that's a lot of years down the line, and I don't want to live here forever anyway.

Ours is per property. I can't imagine it being enforced unless someone complained. I live right in the city, though.

Three dogs and five cats. If you have both, up to 5 combined with no more than 3 dogs. Per household. Caged animals don't have a limit.

Over 20 weeks old.

There's no permit to keep more.

We are allowed 4 dogs/cats in my town per house, I am pretty sure. I was trying to look it up on the city website recently but it was hard to find. I think it was 4 though.

So obviously I am in compliance and I don't ever see myself with more than 4 dogs ever so it's not a concern in the future.

Where I lived with my dad they didn't have a limit (outside town limits) but the HOA had a limit of 3. No one cared though that we had 6 little dogs at one point.

I think we live in the same township...and yeah, I had never heard of pet limits until we looked into moving out of state where everywhere was a gated or HOA type community. I know quite a few people with 4 or 5+ dogs. Until it becomes some kind of hoarder/neglect situation or the dogs are problematic, I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for too many pets.

Oh and I never asked my landlord about their pet limits. They had room for three pets on the form, lol. I plan on moving before getting Nextdog.

My neighbor though that recently moved had 5 dogs and a litter of puppies in a 900 sq foot house.

Yeah, it's a lame law I am happy to over look. County limit here is 3, but you can get a kennel license for any more. Not something I've chosen to do at this point and likely won't unless it becomes a problem somehow.I thought living in the suburbs would make it an issue, but my dogs don't cause a ruckus, our direct next door neighbors are dog owners/lovers/have more than 3, and there are several houses in the neighborhood with 4 or 5 dogs. Over all a pretty dog friendly neighborhood.

Oh wow, I didn't know pet limit laws were so common. I live in town, and we don't have any at all, for any species.

Heck, we don't even have any sort of license laws. You don't have to register your dog with the city here, or pay any sort of fees. I really didn't know other places did that!
