hi i wrote a thread yesterday abt my underweight dog as i can still see his backbone,
so 2day i went to shop and got him more tins of dog food and biscuits, so now im am going to feed him 4 tins of meat a day plus 300 grams of biscuits (lets hope he eats it all) 2 times a day,
how long should it be until i see a difference, and the spine goes away?
weeks or months???

If you mean that your going to give him 8 tins plus 600g of Dried then that is way to much and he will throw up.

If you mean 2 Tins x 150g twice a day then ok, no-one can say how long it will take for him to fatten up.
It depends on his lifestyle.

To be honest i think that even if it is 4 Tins and 300g a day then that seems a little too much.

Some animals just have higher metabolisms, he may always look "skinny". As Caren said you don't want to stuff him, it will just make him sick.

My guys have never had a problem with weight but a friend of mine adopted a skinny dog... She just mixed one large can of dog food with his normal kibble at night time, and fed him dry food in the morning. He bulked up within a couple of months. You don't want him to put too much weight on fast.

and he seems to eat that.
That is like giving him maybe around the daily requirement for a 30Kg dog only 4 times over.
I personally think that is too much food.

Ok Bailey weighs 20Kg and he would only need (estimate) 300g or 3 Tins per day.
I would say that a Rhod x Boxer will probably weigh 30kg-35kg, so therefore i would only give him 4 Tins OR 420g Complete dried per day (not twice a day).

If you feed him the right amount he will bulk up over time anyway, but if you overfeed him to try and do this your just going to have one very sick and Fat (not healthily) doggy :(

IMO, you should feed the dog a normal amount of biscuit/kibble, and supplement him with other richer foods to encourage weight gain.

SOme good things are:

Eggs (cooked or not)
Canned fish, Mackerel in particular
FRESH ground meats, such as higher fat hamburger
Whole milk yoghurt
Goat milk

It`s muscle he needs around his spine not just fat.You could feed him all kinds of things that would fatten him up quick but that`s not really beneficial.I think if you up his excersize alot his appetite will increase and if you`re feeding him plenty protien and fibre he`ll gain wieght nicely.2-3 monthes you`ll see a big difference.
