Venice doesn't really care. I think if I took her out to watch them with me though she might get a little spooky, based on her reaction to the ice-blasting this winter. We went to watch them blasting the ice and while the booms didn't make her flinch or panic, after the fourth or fifth blast I noticed she was doing a lot of lip-licking and her tail was tucked, so we left. Granted, we were like 100 feet away from dynamite exploding and shooting ice way up into the sky so....

As much as we shoot I think the dogs are desensitized to loud noises. Neighbors set them off all the time and grad party down the street the other day was setting off the loud boomy gas can ones and no one blinked an eye. Horses don't care eitheir.

Watson usually doesn't care unless they are really close, like if the next door neighbors are setting them off. Even then he just looks a bit nervous and usually perches on the back of the couch, but that's it. If they are further away, he will alert bark the first few times, but once he realizes that they're not stopping he just goes back to sleep.

Not sure about Hazel. She startles initially with loud noises but recovers quickly, so we'll see. There have been a couple fireworks going off over the past week and she hasn't really noticed.

Brisbane is indifferent to loud ones and really wants to bite the smaller ones we've set off at parties. Ru is oblivious. We don't have thunderstorms or gunfire so their exposure to loud stuff is pretty limited.

Mine generally don't care.

On the actual 4th of July, there does come a point where SO many people are lighting them off that they don't want to go outside but honestly neither do I. Toast hasn't experienced the 4th itself yet but there have been smaller celebrations with fireworks and he hasn't cared.

Hugo is mildly irritated if they're being shot off right near our yard because he can see people milling about blowing things up and obviously they're trying to blow US up. He woofs once or twice and then gets over it. If he can't see them, he doesn't care about them.

Well on Monday someone shot off fireworks nearby next to my agility class. Hank was totally unfazed. Yay. I figured he would be but it was good seeing that he wasn't worried at all. A lot of the other dogs get upset.

Smiley doesn't really care about them. He might jump if we are in close proximity, but he's more curious about them than scared.

I was honestly surprised by his nonchalance. He used to be very reactive to loud buses/trucks passing on the street, and he is still very wary of skateboards on sidewalks.

Mine don't care at all, thankfully. I had a noise phobic dog in the past and hope to never have another. I felt so bad for her.

Even last night we had a really severe thunderstorm and everyone just slept. It was one of the loudest, most house shaking storms I've experienced in years. I love that they're all so casual about stuff like that. Even little weirdo Dancey haha. Of all of my dogs it surprises me that she doesn't care, but I'm glad.

So surprise fireworks last night resulted in Rider totally being fine. Not quite sure who swapped my dog but I'll take it!

Pippa couldn't care less about fireworks from our experiences so far (unless they are accompanied by drunken revelers). After being abroad, though, I may need a Thundershirt!

Crossbone used to freak out, but has been getting better. We were at a friends house last night and Crossbone retreated to the house as soon as he heard the first "pop" in the distance of a firecracker.

Pox didn't pay any attention to the pops and later people were lighting big fireworks off and he sat on my lap watching. He'd cock his head but didn't seem concerned or phased by any of it.

Fireworks

My other Lab, Charcoal, she cowers during the fireworks display on the 4th of July celebration that is often nearby. It just has been that way as far as I remember. :lol-sign:

Mine are fine for the most part, thankfully.

The other night we were at SO's crappy little downtown apartment (old house) with Cobain and Oz.
Fireworks were going off literally on every side of the house. I swear the house shook a little with some of the bigger ones.

Cobain looks out the window, watches them for a second, sighs then flops down right in front of the window. Not even a little phased.

Oz is nearly deaf now, but I don't recall him ever freaking out around fireworks anyway.

Rigby is okay when she's at my house. She just wants to lie on Cobain's dog bed under my desk and she's fine. At the apartment she gets incredibly stressed out.

Ruby gets a little nervous, but mostly fine.

They are fine. More anxious if they are outside and there are super loud ones, but they aren't like... the flee/hide sort. They are fine inside though. Lucy just barks at them like she does every time she hears a noise lol.

Juno and Sawyer did great last night, we were at a bonfire so they were outside most of the night and Juno was mostly interested in everyone's smores and Sawyer slept most of the time. When fireworks first started going off I was initially giving them treats every time we heard one but stopped that once I saw they weren't upset about it.

I was very proud of Abrams. The first one he heard he roared at, but after a quick "it's fine, lay down and shut up" from me he only grumbled half heartedly at the really loud ones.

Poor Histamine, though, is not a fan.

Fable did not do as well this year as she did last. She was doing pretty well to begin with, so I decided to take her outside to potty before they started really going, and she totally flipped out. Wanted to go back inside really bad, which is completely understandable. Once she was back in the house, she did much better. Just a little bit of pacing and panting and hiding under the dining room table. But I think the dozen people we had over along with the two other dogs and copious amounts of food sufficiently distracted her from the noise.

She's certainly not a dog I would take to an outdoor gathering or to observe the fireworks on the fourth, but she does perfectly fine when indoors with plenty of distractions.

ETA: And Jazmin (my cat) is totally oblivious. She just wasn't happy because she had to be locked in a bedroom all evening because I didn't want to risk her getting let outside or let in the same area with Fable and/or my aunt's giant schnauzer.

Well Sam was actually more nervous than Wilson was last night, but both of them did pretty well. They just looked a little bit nervous but nothing crazy.

My cat, Lillie, on the other hand, she spent the night hiding under the couch making big eyes and shaking. Poor girl :(

Awful. In the beginning, mild anxiety with the noise directly overhead, but otherwise no ****s given. As she approaches her senior years, it's honestly a real problem.

Fireworks, gunshots and thunderstorms trigger a compulsive panicked digging/chewing escape type behavior that has become quite destructive. I bought her a brand new, heavy duty airline crate and it barely survived the 4th of july. She tore up the carpet, padding and some of the wood in the upstairs of the apartment I'm staying in, which is the first time she's ever been so destructive and it tells me her noise sensitivity has gotten much worse.

As soon as I can afford it, I'm going to buy some xanax or even acepromazine to keep her behavior under control. I can't do it anymore lol
