How do your dogs feel about photos?

Are they camera shy? Complete hams?
Millie isn't really a ham, but she usually has a smile for the camera. Fable, even when I bring out treats and toys, gives me a look that says she'd like for the ground to fall through, taking me and my camera with it. She would much rather run around than pose for a photo, thankyouverymuch.

Mine are bored and uninterested, tbh. Too often have I tried to trick them by saying ready or making noises for the camera and then not followed through with a reward after snapping the shot. Bad photog, bad.

Oh, totally, most of the best pics aren't posed. I mean when you actually want a picture of them looking at the camera. Millie's like "Okay! Which angle?" and Fable's like "Whyyy? Do I have to? Could I stalk bunnehs instead? Oh, just go away. Seriously."

LOL! Not really. Trent's a camera ham, he knows what the camera means and he doesn't mind at all. Most of our pictures look like this

I do this every time. My neighbors probably think I'm crazy - I wave my arms, making chirping noises, pretend to greet other dogs, pretend to greet cats, pretend to throw the ball, dance around... you name it! Poor dog, I'm surprised he hasn't developed serious trust issues by now.

ETA: What if I tried an exercise with Fable, like when the camera comes out, *click/treat* immediately? I want her to think it's a good thing!

I've always used treats to catch his attention or reward him for staying, so I may have been doing it unintentionally all along. Although with that exercise, I could see her wanting to run at you for a treat every time you take the camera out

I don't even honestly know if my dogs notice. My camera, to them, is pretty much like an appendage of mine haha. They've had it follow them around and in their faces since they were little puppies. Fun stuff happens when I have the camera out usually, so they don't seem to care. And when I pose them, there's always a reward in it for them (food, play, just the chance to run around like maniacs), so they have no reason not to like it.

Journey's my best camera ham though. She consistently looks like the right way and poses nicely, while the other three are always looking around distractedly or squinting.

Trent sounds like Millie. She really is such a good sport. And if she's running and she hits just the right position, if I say "Stop!" she holds her pose. Then just me saying, "Okay!" and getting released to run is a good enough reward for her. She's pretty low maintenance.

Yeah about Fable and the noms, that already happens. I start off with her whole body in frame, take out a treat, and end up getting a close-up of her flank and tail as she runs towards me. Food driven Fable breaks her stay for food if we're outside. Something we need to work on. I also take pictures from crappy/too high angles because she sees it as an invitation to use me as monkey bars if I get down to her level.
I was more wondering if it would help to teach her to just love the camera before I even turn it on. Like, "The camera's out! FUN TIME! "

I had Clyde conditioned so that camera=treats. That was great, except that he was so used to "posing" for the camera that it became difficult to get anything other than model shots. :/

Natty hates a camera with the burning passion of a thousand angry suns. Kaia, StiXxX & Zellie don't care one way or another, although I think Kaia may be a little scared of it still. Gunnar, our foster boy, doesn't seem to care either.

Violet's a serious ham. Like, if the camera is out, she legit gets into modeling poses and either looks right at the camera (without me calling her or trying to get her attention) or does some "thoughtful/wistful" pose where she's looking off into the distance. It's so weird. And I'm serious, she actually does that.

Chloe hates it. She doesn't like the camera or having her picture taken. When I first met her I tried taking pictures of her and she would run into another room! She's not like that anymore and I can even occasionally get some natural looking pictures of her, but she doesn't pose.

But occasionally I can even get some good ones of the two of them looking somewhat natural and relaxed!

 

[Sit Stay]

Quinn is a major poser, camera or not lol. She definitely isn't afraid of it but doesn't do anything different when it comes out, either. She is always posing and looking pretty/serious outside if I'm letting her do her own thing and not actively playing with her.

That's pretty much how mine are, they're so used to it that it's just normal for them to have a big lens in their face LOL.

Sako is a total camera hog though, he knows he's handsome. If he has his show lead on, shots end up like this:

Piper used to HATE the camera when she was younger. Most of the time she does great now, but she still can do the "I'm going to pout and there's nothing you can do about it." pose:

Wilson used to be my camera ham, but I think I made one to many weird noises at him so now he's figured me out. It takes me forever to get a shot of him where he looks semi-interested and not all dull/boring. But it's worth it in the end:

Cali loves the camera as well, except I can never get a posed picture if I am on the ground with her usually. She'll immediately drop what she's doing and shove her nose right at the camera. Moses is okay with it, but it's hard to keep him looking at the camera.

Chloe doesn't mind the camera. She's actually quite fun to take photos of. She does have her moments where she will be "stubborn" and just completely not want to cooperate, but she typically puts on a good face and pose.

Rose and Cynder don't like the camera. They get a look on their face that says, "Why me?!?!" and turn their head away.

Gracie doesn't care and is actually quite good at modeled shots.

Cooper, apparently, has to move every .2 seconds, so most of my photos of him sitting still end up with his head a blur.

The most obvious photogenic animal was my mom's cat. Every time I would bring out the camera to take photos of everyone, she would get all sweet and innocent and just ham it up:

I thought it was coincidence until she did it when she and Apollo were playing, too. She was laying down looking pissed that Apollo was playing with her tail...then she saw me with the camera and immediately tried to look angelic:

If I grab my camera, my dogs get excited because they are pretty sure that camera = them and they get to do fun things.

Actually shooting photos- Summer follows your directions like a pro although she tends to pose the same way every time. She wants to stand facing you. Mia.... thinks she can ignore me and my camera a lot. So we'll pose her and then I'll go try to position myself and she's left.
