Hi
I have done a search on Chaz, but came up empty.
Does anyone have recipes for homemade training bait? I have a few that my dogs love but always looking for new and exciting .............

I'll start, my dogs love this one, its easy and cheap.

1 Can of Red Pacific Salmon with the juices
3/4 cup of flour (any type)
1 egg

Mix, spread onto dusted cookie sheet, make into either cookies or spread over entire sheet
bake at 250 for 20 minutes
What I don't use, I freeze.

I also use tuna, turkey flakes or chicken flakes.
I don't like using ham or corned beef because of the high salt (but have used them, the dogs also love it, but I only use a small amount each time.

Take care
Lynn

For soft treats (wheat free):

Oat flour
Peanut Butter
Olive Oil (enough to make the dough pliable)
Sesame Oil (gives the treats a great smell)

Mix all ingredients together (in desired proportions). Dust with additional oat flour and roll flat. Cut into small pieces and coat in oat flour (they won't stick together!)

Alternatively, if you're sitting around watching t.v. and want to make some treats: make the dough as above. Pinch off small pieces and roll them into balls. Coat them in oat flour (to prevent sticking).

For biscuits:

Whole wheat flour (I use King Arthur Organic or Bob's Red Mill Organic)
Bananas
Peanut Butter
Apple slices (seeds removed)
Water
Canola Oil

Mix all ingredients in a food processor and add enough water to make a dough. Roll the dough out, rub additional canola oil on top and cut with "dog bone" cookie cutter. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes until crunchy.

Alternatively:

Whole Wheat Flour
Carrots
Celery
Apple
Parsley (good for breath)
Water
Canola Oil

(Repeat steps as above)

I made the first one sort of the other day.. a can of salmon, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 3 tsp flour mixed up and flattened out on a baking sheet scored into little pieces and baked for 40 minutes at 350 to get them to quit falling apart on me. lol.

Cider is LOVING them.. we have some awesome attention for those, and they were so so cheap since I'm running out of training treats.

i've been using liver. it's cheap and easy to make. just buy some fresh, bake in the oven [maybe with some garlic] until it's nice and done [fairly dry and chewy] and then chop into tiny little pieces when cooled. i pack little baggies with a handful of them and then store them in the freezer. sylvie knows the sound of me pulling one out and gets pretty darn excited. and i like the ability to cut the pieces so small for training, and the little baggies are handy for keeping a pile in your pocket.

I mostly make liver treats. I like the salmon ones too, but they are so much more expensive.

1 pound chicken liver
(I used beef once and it burned out the motor in my blender:mad: and it was disgusting too)
garlic
2 eggs
enough flour to make batter the consistency of brownie batter

spread thinly into greased and floured cookie sheet with edges. bake at 350 til edges pull away. cut into little peices.

I use deer meat or any other available meats...cut in very thin strips, I don't marinade...and either hang (with toothpics) from racks in warm oven or just put in the dehydrater... Jerky for dogs!
