Just a curiosity. What are the top breeds by entry number for conformation. Looking at the local show that is going on this week:

1. Bulldog 48
2. Great Dane 47
3. Golden retriever 44
4. Doberman 37
5. Papillon 36
6. Cavalier 35
7. German shepherd 34
8. French bulldog 33
9. Boxer 30
10. Poms and ACDs tie at 26

I'm just curious if paps are always so heavily represented. When beau was showing we were always one of the highest entry numbers.

The last show I went to had

41 Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
36 Rhodesian Ridgeback
40 Samoyed

as the most populous breeds.

There were 12 paps entered.

Usually always Boxers, Goldens, Shelties, Great Danes, Havanese.

Although, the average size of a show in this area is about 450 dogs. Our shows in Des Moines tend to be closer to 850 - 1000.

I would have to look for more recent shows, but for now I'll say we usually have over 100 Labs at my all time favorite local show each year. For comparison, the most Beaucerons at one time there so far has been three.

Cape Breton doesn't even have dog shows ..you literally have to drive at least 3hrs off the island before you get one!

Labs, Goldens, Dobes, GSD's, Papillons are usually pretty high numbers, Aussies, shelties.

It varies on the show and time of the year. People with coated breeds just looking for points might skip some summer shows if their dogs are out of coat. Certain shows almost always make majors in certain breeds. Of course the BIG shows Houston, Tulsa, OKC, San Antonio always pull big entries in multiple breeds, especially when there are specialties in conjunction with the regular show.

I couldn't find the info online but according to my catalog from this year, the major entries at the biggest show in the state are, from each group:

Goldens (79)
Labs (52)
Vizslas (34)

Borzoi (38)
Rhodesian Ridgebacks (36)
Whippets (33)

Rottweilers (50)
BMDs (40)
Samoyeds (40)

Mini Schnauzers (20)
Wheatens (18)
Westies (16)

Poms (34)
Pugs (25)
Cavaliers (22)

Keeshonden (42)
Bulldogs (39)
Frenchies (26)

GSDs (36)
Aussies (35)
Shelties (34)

I pulled numbers from various days but they were all consistently the top 3 most popular breeds there.

There were only 2 Papillons at the whole show :( I really want to meet more but they don't seem to be very common around here.
