I see how it started I read the thread I am just concerned that the word "banning" and any breed name is used in the same sentence. Anything that even remotely sounds like BSL concerns me.

I kind of got deterred a bit from some of the other responses, but what I wanted to do on this area of the site is just provide some information for you. As a trainer for movies. TV shows and commercials, I have helped give people from all over the U.S. a "behind the scenes" look at how the animals are trained. I have personally trained all the dogs and cats in all the IAMS national commercials for the past 10 years, and trained Dreyfuss on the TV series EMPTY NEST from 1988-1992. I don't know if you saw the movie "A GOOD YEAR' with Russell Crowe, but I we shot that in Southern France 3 yrs ago with a Jack Russell that I trained.

We are shooting IAMS commercials periodically in NYC too, so when that happens, I will let you know, because many of the animals we use come from private parties.

Joel, we welcome all new members, but just be aware that you are by far NOT the only trainer on here, or even the only showbiz trainer. You can tout accomplishments all you want, but it's going to be the daily input on here that builds your reputation, at least as far as Chazhound goes.

ok, this is not ment to be mean, this is just an FYI.

If you want to keep yourself respected on this forum, don't ignore posts that ask you explain something you've stated. Don't make a statement if you're not ready to back it up and defend it. Don't expect people to side with you and do the fighting for you. Expect debates to occur, and enjoy them. Do not take the debates personally-- everyone on here is very passionate. If you give “examples” from other people or studies, be ready to provide hard evidence for us to find those examples. Don’t expect people to side with you “just because you think it’s right.” Everyone here loves discussion, loves debates, and loves the knowledge each member has to bring, but we’re not easily sold. ;)

I can think of at least four trainers on this forum who have worked in 'show biz' lol They all earned our respect as well ;)

ETA: By that I mean that they have shown that their training methods are solid rather then frequently throwing their resumes at us. You've made your credentials available. We know. You've also comment on that term 'studied' and mocked someone because you assumed their know-how came from books. Same situation here. Be a part of the forum. Don't think you are better then the trainers here because you have a TV show and do work for a crappy food company and some other show biz jobs. It's just a suggestion so take it as you will but it would be nice if you could be a productive part of the forum. We do enjoy different approaches and a good debate but nobody likes to be told they are 'wrong' just because someone else says so. It's worth keeping in mind...

Wow

Wow....

Guys........in my last post I was just sharing some of the things I did. Many people have questions about how we train the animals on those jobs I mentioned... Also, just by mentioning what I do on the set, someone normally contacts me along the way and a few of the times we have end up using their dog for a commercial..... and Shara, you really don't like IAMS do you?

Joel , I'm late getting in here . 1st I don't get cable so your name meant nothing ( sorry ) 2nd Welcome to Chaz !!! 3rd enter a (C) breeder ! All my dogs were tested , came from Conformation stock and Field Work . I bred my Goldens mainly as lovable family dogs , but if people wanted to do more with them , they could . Over my 30 years of responsible breeding , I never had to place an ad . I always had a waiting list as my breeding was only with 1 female at a time ( always at least a year and a half between litters ), and I studded out only to quality females over two years old ...... with my firm contract for them to go buy . These folks didn't advertise either . To me there are Conscience Breeders and BYBs. I hate on line sellers unless it's for rescue .

You are right. In a perfect world it would be great to go after all of the breeders. But you have to give yourself a shot, and chance to enforce it. The law they passed here in the city of Los Angeles is a perfect example. The can't enforce it.
Look at it from a reality based view.

Laws don't deter anyone but the lawful. The people you really want to stop aren't going to be detered by laws. They never have been.

Oh, and no, we're definitely not fans of IAMS or Eukanuba, or Science DIEt or any of those alleged "foods" here . . . we did our research ;)

I have no clue who you are Joel and don't much appreciate the attitude you came on with - it seems you expect everyone to immediately respect you because of WHO you are. You have to earn respect around here, and that's one of the things that's so great about Chazhound.

It seems things have gotten off to a rocky start, but I'd love to see that straightened out and welcome you as another knowledgeable contributor to the forum discussions :)

Hi there...

OK, the answer is yes this is really me. I have picked out just a few websites to go to and reach out and help the pet owner. If you have seen my show on ANIMAL PLANET or purchased any of my videos, you will know that I make the effort to make training simple for the pet owner. I hope that I can help people on this site too in many different ways. I did just launch a totally free website which helps the pet owner with many issues too. It is www.companionsforlife.net. But I want to make the effort to use this site as my means of communicating with the pet owner. I look forward to chatting with many of you.

Glad to have you here, I'll be honest, I don't watch a lot of TV, so have never heard of you. I'll wait and see if you back up your 'resume' with your participation.

Welcome :)

I admit I didn't recognize your name either. I think I have caught maybe an episode or two of Good Dog U though so I was able to place you from there.

You have mentioned "the other guy" and I gotta say that I don't care much for him, I much prefer "the other GIRL" LOL, I am sure you know the one.

Again, welcome.........I am sure you will find a wide array of people here at chaz, people from the "average pet owner" all the way to VERY accomplished dog owners with everything in between :)

Welcome to the forum Joel... I'll be interested to understand more why you feel the way you do in your training methods and your views on breeding as we get to know you better. I definitely agree with what was made mention earlier about you needing to build your reputation on this forum before respect is given. Too many people come on here and make a racket or troll around and upset members who have dedicated so much time and experiences to this forum. Stick around, keep chatting with us and sharing your ideas and build your respect here. Look forward to getting to know you.

I haven't had a chance to watch your show yet, but I'll keep an eye out for it. What nights/times does it play usually?

Also... definitely NOT an IAMS fan here... Check out our food forums to see why most of us feel the way we do about a lot of food companies.

Again welcome! :)

Thanks Coop. That gal is the real deal, experience AND education and it shows!!!:) It's so nice to see someone on the idiot box with current knowledge in this industry.
I've only seen a few of her shows and other appearences but you can tell that she's on top of why things are not done the way that they were WAY BACK WHEN.....:D

Joel - are you still on Good Dog U? If not, how long were you on and why did you leave?

I used to watch Good Dog U a while back. I liked it. I think it was from your show where I got the trick to teach Kassie how to put her paw over her nose, the one with the sticky tape. She learned how to do it pretty fast.

Welcome to Chazhound, Joel.
