Hi I am new here and would like to introduce myself.

I don't have any dogs right now, but am in the process of looking for one. I volunteer at our local Humane Society here in California. I am 14 years old and am going to be a junior in high school next year. My birthday was March 24th.

Well, don't know what else to say so, I can't wait to post more and get some advice on a good dog for me! :)

Thank you for your welcome.
You see I skipped my 8th grade year to go to highschool early. That is why I am only 14 and soon to be a junior.

Welcome! It's nice to see a younger person doing something good for the community and for animals. Way to go!

As far as advice on a dog this would be a personal preference for you depending on what you are looking for in a dog. Do you want something with a ton of energy or something more laid back? It's important to know what you really want to do with this dog. I picked an Australian Shepherd because I actually wanted a high-energy, intelligent dog which I can have fun training and socializing. If you get a rescue dog from the shelter just make sure you know a little about the breed of dog (if possible) before jumping into something. Sure, they might look cute but are you ready for the responsibility a dog needs? ;)

Whatever you choose I'm sure the dog will be lucky to have you. You sound like a very mature person.

If I were you I would do as much research as possible before you make your choice. There is tons of information in these forums and on the web.

Good luck and make sure you keep us posted when you do find a dog!

Thank you for the welcome!! :)

I posted in the breed area about getting either a husky or giant schnauzer. Those are the two dogs I am looking at. Yes I do beleive I am very ready for the responsibility of a dog. I love running and excercising and just absolutely love working with dogs. :)
